Hi All,
I have a 2000 323ci that has an airbag warning light showing so I read through all of the posts and purchased INPA s/w and connector to read the code and do a reset. Initially tried to connect to the OBDII port under the dash but learned that with early models (my production date is 09/99) that I would need to connect to the round 20 pin connector under the hood. Ordered another connector (OBDII to round 20 pin) and launched the s/w. Now I can see almost everything except for the Airbag module--s/w indicates that THERE IS NO RESPONSE FROM THE CONTROL UNIT.
Does this mean that my main airbag control unit is bad?
What else should I investigate?
I should also mention that in the last 1.5 years BMW did replace the passenger side airbag under warranty as part of the problems associated with TATA airbags.
Also, when that car is started the airbag light does flicker off quickly and then remains illuminated.
I have also checked the fuses and all is good.
Thanks in advance for your assistance!
Have you tried to talk to any other module in the car like the DME?
Also what connection are you using? USB or R-232?
What is the exact message that INPA gives you went you attempt to access the Airbag module?

Worthy,
Answers for your questions,
1. Yes, I can see all functions of the DME. The INPA s/w seems to be working correctly. Although this is the first time using it for me so there is always the possibility that either some of the s/w is corrupt or I have not correctly installed it.
2. Connection is via USB on an older computer running XP
3. It has been a week or so since I connected to the car but I believe the exact message was, "THERE IS NO RESPONSE FROM THE CONTROL UNIT"
Thanks for your response and input!
No problems, sometimes I get the same message and I swap out cables, and slow down the comms. Some reason or another, BMW just likes to take it slow.
Have you done a search in the diagnostic software sub-form for the "No response"?
Do you have any friends nearby that has other diagnostic software? Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and get a shop to pull codes. I have the same problem with my 318is, as in INPA will not talk to the DME, but a snap-on box can and I cannot figure out why.
