BMW Scanner help. Need to unlock EWS 3.

I've searched and searched and searched and found nothing relevant to my issue.

Long story short I used an AK90+ to add some keys to my system. But for what ever reason I hit the wrong button my EWS 3 was rewritten with wrong information (ie: SA, GM, VIN, #'s etc)

    • So I now have a PA Scanner Tool and tried to copy the IKE>EWS and it wont work unless the EWS is unlocked/programming mode.
    • When I go to the EWS tool section to unlock it (after asking to back it up) it says to Connect EWS Connector Pins 4 and 8 together. Well I tried in the EWS connector 4 and 8 using a piece of wire inside the plug and behind the plug with no luck.
    • I've also tried the pictures of connecting the two points on the back of the EWS (pictured below) But when done so, the BMW Scanner tool no longer sees the EWS. (either while erasing or starting the program)

So I'm at an impasse short of buying an entire kit to replace to make the system work again..

The tools I currently have are:

    BMW Scanner 1.4
    OBD 2 > Round Adapter
    PA Scanner Tool Software
    VMware setup with Windows XP

I have all the dealer programs, but if you dont work with the scanner tool it would be a waste of time to install them.

First one with the answer that WORKS gets LEDS from my company for whatever they need in their car ie: License plate lights, dome light, map lights, etc etc etc (doesn't matter make or model). I'm that desperate short of wasting more money on Dealer or Used parts programmed to each other.

did you ever solve this issue? you could have messaged me on the e46 forum. i could've helped. what i find odd is if you read my instructions on the DIY you would've or should have remembered to do a backup first. second, i doubt you would have been able to change the vin info on that ews using that software. maybe you screwed up the ZCS coding but that could have easily been manually punched in by either doing what you accidentally did but with the correct info obtained by using pa soft.

i'm sure you have this solved though

If you disconnect "two points on the back of the EWS (pictured below)", can you connect again?

I did a similar thing, I "accidentally" disabled all my keys today with BMW Scanner and now I am locked out in a way that I can't re-enable them simply because there is no "active" key on position 2. I also did tried pin 4 to pin 8 on the EWS3 module as mentioned above with no luck again in unlocking. Walopower picture is missing so can't try this either. Anyway I found a shop in my town where this can be sorted out, here is a picture on how they do in on their fb page

I am wondering is it possible to recover what I did at this point using this P.A. Soft? I there a way this AWS3 module can be unlocked and allow me to re-enable my "master" keys without having and "active" one?

I don't think PA Soft can do it. CarProg can (in the same manner as the shop in your town).

I have Carprog, I also tryed with Pa-soft stadalone without car, not work.
With Carprog, maybe my A11 adapter is bad, pins was very wrong, I try to fix it, resolder again etc. But I still can't connect to EWS3 Motorola. Next I will solder Motorola adapter straight to chip. I think that will work because I already fix SRS3 jam with Carprog and that adapter.

I ran into the same issue.

    Correct wiring inside the cable:

    Correct wiring to EWS module:

Ground pin (you don't have to bridge the chip with solder. Just ground that pin (it's the same exact effect):

    Thanks from clear help.
But I have did both ends of A11 just like you, my R3 resistor is also white like your R1 (slightly damaged?), but I measured it and it is should be ok 10k. I also measured from ews side that there is gnd/+12/K-line in own pins. If I remember K-line voltage was about 10V, itshould be right. I have Carprog clone 4.01. I also grounded same pin. I have tried gnd it before power ews, but also keep grounded during read, which one is right? I feed Carprog with +12.0V power, but when I measure +12V from inside EWS, it's only 11,5V, it could be little too low, should I feed it by separate power?

My A11 wires were completely wrong, every single one of them in the wrong place. Had to look at pinouts and wiring diagrams to put it back together correctly.
My Carprog was 4.01, but I flashed it to full 8.21 myself. Pretty easy, just need the files and a JTAG.
Not sure if that made a difference, as I never tried an EWS with 4.01.

I keep that pin grounded during read and write. If not grounded, it didn't work for me. I've done a few EWS's like that. They were all 0D46J MPU.

I applied +12 just to Carprog.

(Hmmm, I knew someone from Gothenburg while I was in university in Europe. Shame I've never seen Sweden outside of Stockholm.)

I also change all pins from A11 according schematics, both ends was complete wrong, I take gnd from A11 adapter. It try 5 times, but not read.
I have 2 units of 0D46J, so maybe at least one of them should working.
Maybe I then need to update Carprog to 8.21, but it's not look easy:
