Anyone have luck stopping the older colored trim pieces around the front seats form getting "sticky" from decomposition? Solution beside replacement? Thank you.
You could spray paint them with a clear coat... Otherwise replace.
I just ordered replacements for mine. But be advised that some are NLA.

Don't know about the BMW's, but on other German models with some sticky plastic/rubber parts, I've found I can clean them and eliminate the stickiness with the 'purple' cleaner. With all such approaches, test it on something that's not readily visible!

There's a product called 'Tautflex' - a water-based 'rubberised' paint for touching up MB interiors.
I'm pretty sure it's the same product used in BMW's - the Anthracite 221 may even be the correct colour for our black-trimmed E31's.
I know someone here in NZ who has used it on their MB, with great results.
There may be a US supplier but failing that, this company in Australia will ship anywhere in the world.

I saw the guys on CarFix send some old Ferrari interior pieces here ... No affiliation. If I remember correctly, they media blast the gooey stuff off, then re-coat it with material that will not get sticky in the heat. Even graphics and lettering on knobs and switches can be redone. I'm tempted to contact them about fixing my cracked center vent ...
