F10 2012 535 Tail Lamp Inner & Outer Starting Working

Hey Bimmer Friends,

Scratching my head on this one and wondering if someone had seen or could help explain this. 6 months ago I started to get an intermittent Left Tail Lamp Malfunction message. That is to say the inner and outer tail light would go out for a day or two and then come back on for a week before the message would pop up again. This went on for 2 months before the the message became steady and consistent. For four months the inner and outer tail lamps have been in the malfunction state - not working, not on. Today I get in the car and both lights are on and bright as ever.

Anyone experience this? Are the inner and outer tail lamps on the same controller of sorts?

Any help or guesses would be appreciated.

Obviously check and replace the bulbs. Or it could be a burned ground wire at the connector. The E60 model was bad about that, but not sure about the F10.

What concerns me more is that you knew months and months ago that there was a problem, and you're just now looking into it? If you've been driving around with malfunctioning tail lamps or brake lamps, that could really be a safety issue.
