Hey,
I changed new oil level sensor for my n52 523i and i gave it 6l of oil instead of 6.5 so i can see if it increase or decrease. So we got -5 to -25celcius temperatures few weeks and oil level was correct (3 of 5 bars) but now, we got +5 celcius today and car tells there is 4 of 5 bars of oil. So, does this temperature trick sensor to tell there is more oil or do i have problem that oillevel is increasing? Thanks!
I don't ever look at my oil level unless the car tells me it is low. There is a range that is safe for the engine and as long as you are in that range, there is nothing to worry about. The e-dipstick may not be 100 % accurate but I'm sure it is pretty close. Also, when oil gets hot , it expands, so it will appear that there is more oil. When I change my oil, I put 7 qts in, drive the car, check the oil level and as long as it's good, I never check it again, there is no need to, the car will tell you when it is low.
My N52 sensor isn't accurate. My oil capacity is 7qts. I drained 6 qts and sensor said level was fine. I now add a quart as soon as sensor shows the smallest drop in level.
