I did a final inspection of the back of the car and no more cracks/popped spot welds. Yay.
I got all the welded areas cleaned and prepped and coated with epoxy primer tonight. I'll pick up the paint and a bunch of parts tomorrow then spray the color.
I need to put parts back on this thing. I don't have anymore room for any more parts to come off!

Repair looks professional. Nice work. I'd be too lazy to worry about a color topcoat myself, but it will look factory. Be interesting to see if this impacts the wheel hop you were getting.

It could be worse. This is my sisters Monte Carlo. She spun out in the snow and slid backwards into a full size van at like 30 mph. I looked it over after my dad hauled it to his place and all the spot welds holding all the structure of the back of the car together were all like 5 inches apart and they all just pulled apart. Every structural seam in the back of the car just pealed apart like a zipper and went back to being flimsy sheet metal not attached to anything. The rear seat back was flush up against the back of the driver and passenger seat and the passenger seat was actually pushed forward off the rail. It was just the back of the truck, the firewall, and the rear seat back in about a 4 inch thick sandwich. The guy in the van that she hit was able to drive the van home lol. Don't buy a GM car.
Either sis was under estimating here speed or that car is made of tin foil held together with elmers arts/crafts glue and old gum.
Good thing no one was in the back seat..
I have seen kias fair better in similar type accidents at higher speeds...
She was on a 30 mph residential street so she was probably going 40 but would have scrubbed off some speed in the process of turning backwards. The van was also going probably 30-40 in the other direction. Either way the most telling thing to me is that the van was still drivable but it ate up that monte like a fat girl on a plate of cheese fries.

I'm working on a GM product..... an LS1, installed in an airplane...... "Man, this thing has all the power"..... until the alternator packs it in, then a few bad things are going to happen (and, not my bright idea).
I picked up some parts today including these Turner bearings for the upper control arms.....
And I repainted the under the back seat area so that I won't be reminded of this fiasco every time I pull my back seat out.
Everything is primed, painted and under coated as required under the back of the car, so finally, parts can start going back on at the back of the car.

I wonder if those bearings are going to cause more noise? Hopefully they will help with your wheel hop issue. They sure look nice too!
Last night I got the fuel tank back in, the control arms mounted to the subframe and touched up a couple of spots with epoxy primer, paint and undercoating. The subframe is in position for the diff to be installed and the whole thing stuffed back in the car.
None of the rear sway bar links/brackets I have will work so I'll probably have to buy or make some.
The fuel tank vents were a pain in the ass to remove and install, not fun.
