I have had an 04 645 convertible for an=bout 2 years. I purchased with about 70K miles and now it has 90K miles. The I Drive has been inconsistent about 5% of the time. It ate the first set of tires, transmission clunks occaissionally(maybe normal as this is the first bMW automatic I have had), and I have had to replace a headlight and repair top. I know that 2004 is first year. Did it get better a few years down the line like by 2006 or 2007?
Service the transmission with a new filter and fluid. It's not normal to clunk.
The main difference would be the improved valve stem seal design with the introduction of the 650, more agressive looks, and better iDrive (2009 to end of production). Overall, basically the same car.

Do as Xalt suggested, and service the trans. As for the eaten tires, check for worn suspension components, bushings, followed by a wheel alignment-set to less aggressive and more tire friendly specification #'s
Thanks. I thought the transmission flush may be a good idea.
