Check and recheck your wiring or unplug one at a time until the buzzing goes away via process of elimination. To answer your question, I believe they only make 4 ohm and 2 ohm versions, no 8.

Are all the speakers inside the box wired individually? You can combine speakers in series to increase the resistance the amp sees (so 2x 4ohm speakers = 8ohms load, or 4x 2ohm speakers).

That's odd I have no such sounds from mine. I can crank it up really loud without any issues

Could do, but I'm hearing it from each speaker so seems like something affecting all of them?
ok thanks, forgot that it was 2 and 4, not 4 and 8.

Doubling up each pair would indeed get that wires impedance to 8, but wouldn't the total still be 16 to the sub? Before I do any more disassembly though I'm going to listen to a few more CDs at lower bass levels and see if it's still bothersome.

You're running with DSP off, correct?
    What bass level?

Last night's listening/tuning session convinced me that anything over 50% bass was too much. Even 50% overpowered the mids and highs, and also was tiring.
But I only listened to the one REM album so need to try some others.

    Yes they are wired individually.
So you can NOT do that in this case.
Each speaker in the rear deck is driven by a separate amp circuit with no shared grounds.

Faceplate distortion and cone movement is pretty normal for subs, especially in a sealed box. when you're moving the cone that much, some sound is inevitiable. I wonder if a small square of Dynamat or similar on the underside of the mounting plate would help.

    Is the box really sealed?
I popped the trunk last night, and reaching up under the box could feel air movement so I think it's ported out of the bottom.
Could still hear the buzzing sound with the trunk open when I put my head close to the speakers, but again now that I've adjusted the bass level down below 50% it isn't audible in >90% of the songs I've listened to.

I agree with mooll, I thought my box was sealed, but I may have missed it. Maybe yours is supposed to be sealed and is not, or maybe some were and some were not depending on year. I am sorry I don't have an answer on this. As far as I know dville has done more of these than anyone else so maybe he will chime in.

Isn't this a port in the backside which feeds to the trunk?

Not sure now, but isn't that a port from the interior of the car to the trunk to relieve pressure when the doors are closed? I am not sure if the speakers connect to that. again I might be wrong.

For you guys looking for good albums - years ago before I lost most of my hearing and being recently divorced I spent an evening in a stereo store (for those in KC, KA) Beattys, I walked out with just over $3K in sound equipment. The deal maker was listening to a Jazz album "Jazz at the Pawn Shop" a two record album for those that remember what those are. They were playing it on some nice equipment, including some very expensive MagnaPlaner speakers. The album was a $35.00 Digital Master but I can still remember the sounds from that album and I wore it out years ago...... If I could still hear those sounds I would look it up on CD now. It has very subtle sounds of silverware rattling at a sidewalk cafe and some very good backgrounds, a good jazz example.

Yeah that's what I remember seeing when the box was out. I don't know if 2 or all 4 are ported to it, but if you reach in under the rear shelf with a bass-heavy song on, you'll feel air movement in time with the beat.

    Another rear deck speaker upgrade.

The box is one large connected cavity with a large port into the trunk (on 1997? and later cars). Not sure what year the port holes began
There are 2 pieces of sponge on either side of the port that I usually remove with needle nose pliers.

There should be no buzzing or rattling if you test the box outside the car.
You have to tighten the box to the rear deck before testing it or it will surely make a racket.

Nice, glad to hear it. I'm hoping to get mine in this weekend, then re-dye the rear deck black and get it all buttoned up again.

Sounds like a good plan. I'm looking forward to getting to work on it Saturday morning. After the shade repair, the speakers are the only broken bit back there now.

Seriously! Impressive work with such little space to work in.

MN - go back to Thrawn's posts on page 1 or my post on 2-17 and you'll see where to split the joint.
