Hello,
I just bought a 1995 740i with the M60B40 and 5HP30 knowing it had a trans failsafe fault. I trailered it home and plugged it into my laptop with PA soft 1.4 and was able to read the following EGS faults present: 33 [051] and 1A [026]. It also shows 99 [153] as not currently present. See the image below for a snapshot of the codes.

The car is partially disassembled when I picked it up (no cooling system installed) and exhaust removed post cat. But it runs, shifts into gear, and moves under its own power (albeit in 4th gear due to trans failsafe). I haven't ran it for more than a minute or driven it anywhere because the cooling system isn't in it. It has a brand new battery and outputting 14.2 volts when running.
As far as I can tell the codes based on this website (https://www.endtuning.com/bmwcodes.html) are for voltage supply [026] and ignition fault on #2 or 8 [051] but I struggle to understand why wither of these would trigger a trans failsafe, or why the codes are stored in the EGS when neither are transmission related...
Any help will be appreciated. I am relatively new to BMW/ZF automatic transmissions. Thank you.

Decimal 051 for the EGS is a lack of output speed signal (51 Speed monitoring 1M), usually a sign that one of the clutches has failed. However, in your case I would swap out the EGS due to the other codes - no need for coding and well worth a go before replacing the transmission!
26 Permanent Power Supply.
Probably is the battery been disconnected, or is the EGS Control Unit been
disconnected. Verify if the tension on PIN 26 of the EGS Control Unit is
153 CAN-BUS : status fault.
Verify cables and cable connections on the EGS Control Unit :
Pin 86 : +12V, Pin 85 : 0V and Pin 84 : Pulse 0V/+12V
Probably should the EGS Control Unit defective.

Thank you! I will probably try the EGS next. I really apricate the help.
Out of curiosity, where did you find the EGS code list?
I decoded some ancient Carsoft tables, they come in useful quite often!
