Here's an excellent site that shows what pops out of which speaker:

Chase - Heroes to a generation
2months of brutal back and forth and I still Having buzzing Problem with all 4 New Mansoons on my 2001 DSP 740i
I have reseal the the boxes and check for leaks many times and no luck at all.
I took the car out of being so desperate to a best stero shop in town and they told me there are no issues with the leak and the reason that is buzzing is due to DSP amplifier not being able to handle the mansoon.
the buzzing will slight fade away if you lower the base but that defeats the purpose of having nicer speakers in the back!!
I would appreciate any input or advise as im about to abort this project and just buy 4 factory speakers and call it a day.
Why don’t you Swap out the DSP amp as a troubleshooting step?
Find one online or from a junkyard.
It Would be a shame if you got new factory speakers and they buzzed too.

Gotta go with Dville here...I've done three monsoons boxes, two mine and one other, with no issues.
I suspect it's your amp that is causing the concern, not the Monsoons. As suggested, try another amp.
Maybe a local 7'er?
Thanks for the suggestions
I got 3 Amps from local recycle yard all were from 2000-2001 E38 but unfortunately the same exact buzzing sound comes through all 4 speakers still.
Chances for 4 Amplifier being bad is highly unlikely. I have reached a dead end I believe unfortunately.
Do you have a Bluetooth adapter?
Are you using CDs or Radio ?
Same on all?
Does the box buzz outside the car?
You could cut the connector from a junkyard car and Test the box inside the house.

My E38 Project...................DSP Rear Deck Subwoofer box with Monsoon Speakers and Metal pulleyed window regulators NO longer for sale (click link to see how to make your own)....................................
Hi Dville
No Bluethooth adapter.
CD player
Yes it seems like the buzzing comes from all 4 speaker
The Buzzing is inside the car from the speaker box itself.
I'll thought about bench testing at home but unfortunately I dont have and amplifier or home audio set up. I'm lerking around to see what I can find now.
Can you post a pic of the speakers in the box?
Like just pop off both speaker grilles and take a close up of each side showing the speakers ?
Who made your sub box?
Just a heads up - I found a eBay seller selling NOS 4ohm Monsoon speakers for $15 each plus shipping. I think I just paid ~$70 for a set of 4 shipped.
Here is the link:

Driver side monsoon sub keeps failing on me, the speaker bottom where magnet is keeps breaking from the top where sound comes out. By that I mean speaker plastic body breaks and causes rattling.

What is yours doing and did you dig into it?

So I had a few get damaged during shipping. Looks like UPS dropped the box and the impact caused the magnet to dislodge from the speaker.
My fix was to use a section of wire and secure the magnet to the basket on each speaker before shipping.
Then I also made better packaging for shipping.
dville, are you still contructing plug and play setups for rear deck speakers? i just acquired a 97 740iL with only 74k miles on it. sound system is crap....which allows me to enjoy the V8 symphony. i am a bit of an audiophile and would like to improve things. def have something blown in passenger door array at very least.
I'm ridiculously late to this party, but whats the deal with everyone putting VW Monsoon speakers in the rear deck of the E38? The rear deck subs are 8ohm subs, Monsoons are 4ohm... the DSP amp isn't designed to handle 4ohm speaker on those sub channels... is this why I find so many bad DSP amps? Are you guys also doing upgrades to the amp for this too?
Stancing is for drivers trapped in an abusive relationship of their own lives.
Most people who have put the Monsoon speakers in haven't found it detrimental to the amp. I don't believe the failures are correlated with the speaker swap. Although the amp is designed for 8ohm, it seems to run the 4ohm speakers just fine. It also adds a bit of volume to the rear deck speakers. They are running just fine in mine.
Is anyone in the Tri State area willing to let me take a listen to their monsoon set up? I'd love to compare to BSW and see if its worth making the switch.

Are these subs still available? Can't find anymore ebay ads for new ones. I'd like to use them in my E53 X5...
