    My new 93 e36 project

I was looking for a new project after getting rid of my s13 coupe a few years ago. Kept an eye out on Craigslist and found one with no pictures and decided I'll take a shot in the dark. I go and check it out, he was asking $800 for it and said it needed a timing tensioner(said it ran before he parked it). Skeptical of not being able to start it I told him I'd give him $250 for it since I really don't know the condition of the motor or trans. He agreed and I basically got a e36 for $250 minus a trailer and registration. Figured worst thing is I part it out and make some money out of it either way.

Went to to pick a part got tensioner and 5 gal. Of 92 gas. Threw in the tensioner and it fired right up with no knocks and idles perfect.

i think the po slid into a snow bank and busted up the bumper so off to pick a part I go again, get that thrown in.

the purpose of my thread is to gain knowledge of these cars as I'm new to BMW all around. (Most experience is in Nissan and chevy) ask questions and hope to get some answers instead of posting a million threads and reading dead end threads already.

Anyway here are some pics. It's not the prettiest but for $250 you can't expect a gem.
    The day i bought it.

and when i got it home and getting into it.

    Welcome!

We picked up our Goldie in a similar shape for $500. Early e36s are the best!

Nice! there was another e36 for sale in portland for 500 that i was thinking about getting for a backup parts car. same gold color as yours. didnt get to it and didnt really want to trailer it 150 miles home in the crappy weather WA has been getting. I miss my 240 but got tired of the fan boy drifters over pricing everything so i figured id get a car that cost more than theyre willing to spend money on hahaha

did you paint all the gray like the rocker pannels and door bumpers/trim? or did you use something like Back2Black?

Yeah, this KashmereBeige grew on me over time, it isn't "pure gold" like most cars are, more like frosted champaign color if I had to describe it.

Yes, I had a local body shop supply mix a can of this color and I painted bumpers in the driveway. Also blacked out lower sections of the car with an off the shelf spray paint.

Mless5- yeah I hate the gray bottom it looks like faded plastic like you find on a lot of the chevy trucks, it looks like crap to me.

Jayhawkm3- thanks I figured worst comes to worst motor is blown and I'll swap in my spare LS motor that's sitting in the shed. So when I run this into the ground then I'll have a back up plan in motion. Plus since the po did something I want to get the frame rails checked out, there's some things that aren't quite lining up. So might not be that good of a steal if it's tweaked. Although I could just cut them off and tube the front.

Hell; you could part it out for well into what you bought it for. If worded came to worse. You certainly aren't going to lose on it!

    Mostly tourings.
I got a 316ti yesterday for 1€. Runs and is certified for over 12 months, but I'll still scrap it. Too much work, not enough E30.
