E93 questions - TPMS error and top speed

    Hello guys,

On a long trip whenever I cross 90 mph, TPMS warning comes up. It's random and not always and never happens in city driving. Only on freeways at high speed.
    It's 2011 E93 with 76k miles on it.

Also was wondering what's the top speed of this car. I was on i45 N and it was completely empty last week. So after checking the surrounding and when I felt safe I reached around 140 mph with 4 passengers and luggages.
Car pulled effortlessly but once it reached 140 , engine malfunction light came up. I was able to drive it with reduced power and restarted which cleared the warning. Is this normal behaviour ?

128 mph limited. Your speedo might read 140 but more than likely 128 is actual. If you had GPS stating 140 then your limiter was lifted.
If the TPMS comes up at that speed which tire is it pointing to? Possible TMPS sensor maybe be heading south...

128 even with sports package ? Speedo was intact showing more than 140 but I assumed it to be near 140 as its calibrated to show a little more. Anyways, but about the engine malfunction indicator at that speed - is that normal, if you happen to know.

TPMS did not point to any specific tire. I think the warning was "TPMS malfunction or inactive ". It goes away after few mins.

TPMS is tire pressure monitoring system has nothing to do with your engine. I drove my E93 in Germany and my speedo indicated 140 while my actual was 128. If you did not have GPS it was a lot less than indicated. BMW is famous for optimistic speedo's to keep owners from getting tickets.

Not sure if you use oxygen or nitrogen , but I experience Tpms signals when it's cold on my nitrogen filled tires yet they aren't really low.

It's not low tire pressure warning. It says "TPMS malfunction" and hence "Inactive". Occurs only at high speed randomly. I checked tire pressure and it's as per BMW ( 36 front and 41 rear -sports package)

What that points to is that either one of your TPMS is bad or your computer is bad. I would do a reset of the TPMS and see if it repeats. If it does then you need to get codes pulled and see if it is the sensor or the computer which might need recoded or replaced...

I checked with discount tire shop. They checked with the scanner and all the sensors were reporting correctly.
So today I went to Classic Bmw and they are checking it. Let's see. Will update.

For TPMS malfunction problem- dealer couldn't find any issue as all the sensors are reporting correctly. I will keep a note on this.

But they found faulty air flow sensor and pressure sensor which were causing the car to go into limp mode at high speed ( above 100). Replaced under warranty so I am good.

However they mentioned the mufflers are randomly making rattling noise at idle due to faulty actuators. The mufflers with installation would be apps 1300 and doesn't cover under warranty. Its not bad and can't be heard from inside the car so I will skip this for now.
