Have i priced my car correctly? Hellrot/Modena 172k

I've put my car up for sale and curious what the community thinks on the price; i've addressed all the major items, only problems include:
    clear peeling of wing
sunroof fabric falling (headliner was fixed)
    radio head unit is DOA

    I'm asking $9000

I think it seems fair, but I would expect to negotiate a little for a buyer.

Looks good. I'd find the proper wheels and clean the engine bay if you really expect to make your price. Great colour combo.

    - 98 m3, techno/anthrazit cloth, 124k and officially worthless - 89 m3, alpine/black 143k and officially old - 2000 323it, tiag/grey, 169k and officially boring

Considering what I paid for mine only twelve months ago and the amount of maintenance I've had to do to it since I got it (read: ALL of it), I think that's a very fair price.

The problem is making buyers understand that. People that haven't bought an E36 will think you are blowing smoke. I think the price is pretty accurate if the buyer knows what he is buying.

I just bought a 96 Hellrot/Modena with 161k for $7000, id say yours is very fairly priced. Mines a bit worse for wear.

Thanks for all the feedback. I actually have cleaned the engine bay since that pic was taken (i gave it a nice cleaning when i did the valve cover gasket and cooling system).

yeah, I think it's a matter of waiting for the right buyer, not just trying to sell to anybody who's looking for a car at a certain price range. Rather, someone who wants an E36 and knows what they're getting in to. I had a similar situation with my beamer, a 2002 R1100S. KBB said like $2k, but anybody who knew the bikes would pay $5k. I waited around, had tons of low ball offers, but I got my $5k. It only took like 2-3 months, too.

I think your price is great if the body is good, one of my very favorite color combos.

A couple years ago I bought a 97 in this exact same color combo with 116k for 10.5k and had it shipped to me. When I got it the clutch was on its way out (not a deal breaker) but it had some awful quarter panel bodywork that was never disclosed or showed up on a carfax. There were other issues I could have lived and dealt with but I ended up cutting my losses and sold it cheap and lost a good chunk of change, it was a costly lesson learned.

Higher mileage but the maintenance (OEM?) and Modena out weight that. It's unfortunate that you need to sell it.

Very fair price. Do not move much at all on this price. I'd have priced it at $12,999 were it mine.

I don't follow the values of these cars much, but with those wheels, and no record of bushings/ball joints/wheel bearings being replaced (after a quick review of listing), a knowledgeable E36 buyer is going to have some reasonable haggle ammunition.

ss mkv will probably appreciate this --

When I was shopping for an E36 M3 last summer, I saw a car VERY similar to this one and did some e-haggling with the seller. But he was out of my area, and not desperate to sell.

Well, I ended up buying a '97 M3 locally, which had all the power steering replaced, a Z3 rack, a bunch of Eibach suspension upgrades, upgraded exhaust, and generally good maintenance. But the clear coat on the hood was shot, so the hood looked like crap, and the headliner was sagging. It was black on black with about 160K on the clock.

Seller was asking $9,500. I ended up paying $8,200.

All in all, I think this car is very similar to the one I bought in it's market value. So I would say it is priced to attract potential buyers (unlike if it were listed at $13K and would probably never get any calls). But the seller should expect to negotiate a little, but not much.

At this point in the cars life, all I really care about is the condition of the body and if it has ever had body work or damage. I expect to have to sort the suspension, vanos, cooling system etc. An all original car with all factory paintwork that needs all of the common e36 problems is worth more to me than a car with some paint work, accident history etc that has had all of the usual preventative maintenance work done to it. Basically, body condition/originality trumps everything else.

I just bought my '95 Alpine Weiss in extremely similiar physical condition but without all the "stuff" addressed that you have listed and paid roughly half of that...HOWEVER...the guy had just gotten a DUI in it and was a day or two away from going to jail if he didn't come up with $4000 and fast (He had it listed for $8000, which I felt was a little higher than fair given the issues). I think you are right on the mark; I would expect to offer you $8 and hope to land below $8500 on it.

Hey man I live in Sacramento, I think if you post it in the Sac Craigslist you might get more attention.
If I was in the market for another one the 2 hour drive wouldn't scare me. Clean car good luck with the sale!
