Looking for some advice:
Recently got a 2010 528i xDrive in June of 16. Everything has been fine, except a couple weeks ago I got a "Left Low Beam Malfunction" and sure enough, it was out. But then it would come back on. The next day it would be out for a few hours, repeat ad nauseum. So I looked up the bulb, turns out it's a HID bulb (not the stock H7 halogen), so I bought a replacement pair and swapped out both this weekend. They ran great all weekend, actually upped the color to 8000k and it looks pretty nice.
Today, got in the car and got a "Left Low Beam Malfunction" again, and the light was off. Got in the car an hour later, it was working. It's clearly not the bulb because it does work sometimes and it's brand new. Do I have a faulty ballast, or is there a bigger wiring issue?
Thanks,
Steve
Hi Steve,
As I'm sure you know, BMWs are known for having a fickle electrical system, so it could definitely be a faulty fuse or even ballast. Are you able to have the codes read? That would be a great place to start. I've also included a DIY tech article from our site on the headlight replacement (info within the article should be relevant to make sure everything was installed properly). Best of luck!
