Next question... while I have the 4.6 out and accessible... I am assuming it would be a good idea to do the front crankshaft seal and rear main seal. Thoughts? I am assuming this are must do items will the engine is accessible. Easy to do? Special tools?

    Rear Crankshaft Cover w/ Seal, Part# 11141745093
Rear Main Seal Flange Gasket, Part# 11141736521
    Crankshaft Seal Front, Part# 11141275466

You already have to take lower timing cover off, definitely do the seals too. I am

Crosspost from another thread and I would like to ask a quick question if I may.

I am finishing up my M62TUB46 installation as well. It is from an 8/98 build e39 Alpina B10 into a 4/00 build e38 740iL.

My big question is, can I use my old DME for now? I plan to add the tune in time, but would like to get on the road asap.

    Thanks!

FWIW, I can offer short-term feedback. I just installed an 88C thermostat from ECS tuning in my '02 540. The thermostat did not have a wiring connector, but my car doesn't seem to care that the wire isn't connected to anything. (No codes.)

When driving easily, practically coasting in cool weather, I've seen the operating temp as low as 91C. While driving at highway speeds in 40-60F weather, the temp stays at 93C. So I think of it as a low 90's thermostat, which is fine with me. In summertime stop and go traffic with the AC on, I'm sure the temp will climb higher (unless I modify the fans). But at least I know the thermostat will let the temp drop lower when the car is moving.

    I hope that helps.

Pretty sure that is not the desired method to be running around with the Thermostat not connected to the DME.

There's no wire going to my thermostat, wiring in a dummy resistor is only needed if you get a code

How's the progress on your build?

I am pretty sure you bought that shortblock that was for sale on ebay correct? Hardly any 4.6's for sale at the moment.

Yeah talked him down to 3500 shipped. Says there's paper work will see. I'm going to do similar by rebuilding failure parts and replacing seals maybe start with n62 throttle body and 4 in. Maf then super charger later.

    M62TUB46 swap into 2001 740i Sport Project

I haven't seen any suggestions of mods. M60 intake, n62 throttle body, Vw maf. There's gotta be someone that's done more than a SC to this motor

That goes for every motor in existence. I'm asking for actual mods that have been done and what to expect. Before I waist time on mods that don't matter.

For those supercharging a 4.6 on a stock trans beware. I'm at 462hp at 12psi with punched up tune and smaller underdrive pulley and VF have warned me against going any higher then that. From what I'm told the 5hp24, even with high stall and stage 4/5 dinan shift map, can only handle around 500hp before it starts to eat itself.

Once my trans dies I'll be swapping to 6spd. Then I'll be doing the aftercooled rms intake man.

    Current engine mods:
VF supercharger kit (modified tune and smaller pulley from vf)
    Dinan maf
    Dinan TB
    4 screw M60 manifold
    Full stainless exhaust
    S62 headers

    Dinan stage 4/5 trans tune
    Paddle shifters by AMG

Have you ran it on a dyno to see what rwh you have. The whole reason I want to stay in the m62 family is to keep the automatic. But I'm taking notes on your mods

5hp30 has 560nm torque max as opposed to 440nm on the 5hp24, not sure if you can retrofit one.
