    Help identify this chip?

I found this chip in my glove box. Is it the stock chip? Would it be safe to assume the car is chipped, if this is stock?

    Out of a 1995 e34 540i 6spd, specifically this one: http://scrapedcrusaders.com/2017/01/...to-side-chick/

Sorry the photos looked way better on my phone lol

Yes that's a stock chip. Nothing is safe to assume on a 22 year old car, but it might be worth a look.

Definitely a stock chip. Disconnect your battery, remove the DME and open it up. See what chip is in there. Its easy and only takes about 10 mins. I think it's reasonable to assume you have some kind of non-oem chip, But like layne said, it's a 22y/o car so nothing is certain without visual verification.

Thanks. I'll have to take a look then.

I've looked at some DIYs on how to open them up. Looks pretty straight forward, just weary of damaging anything. The car is stored in my garage for winter, I guess now id a better time than ever.

You really have to man handle a DME to break it, they are pretty durable. The hardest part is getting the first circuit board detached from the big connector.

That's for sure. Another reason I like the 6 cylinder cars, only one board in the DME

If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark Donohue

    I didn't know that. I've never had a 6 cyl DME apart.

    Thanks for the tips/hints.

Turns out its a Dinan chip. I got up to the point where you pry the two boards apart. I didn't take it completely apart, just far enough to peak inside.

I've read the Dinan chip is the most conservative, and mostly only relevant at higher RPMs.

Well, Its good to know whats in the car at least.
