Question for the Forum. I update an E83s software and after the update the EGS is not communicating with the DME. My theory is either the newer DME software cannot communicate with the original EGS software or the EGS software was corrupted during the update.
Any ideas for options? The car now has a brake and abs light on the dash and I think it is in failsafe mode (3rd gear).
Thanks in advance.

Good day!!
I just had to program my EGS (which is a different module than the VGSG or transmission computer)... My EGS is a chip located in the bottom of the transmission connected to the valvebody and is apart of the mechatronic... My original one failed after running the vehicle... It would work until it warmed up... My new one was programmed last week... Even though it went smoothly, the software version must have been out of date as I get hard shifts and flares between shifts... I'm looking for updated software... To answer your question... If you are using ISTA/P and the ICOM, you can re-program as if you already replaced the module... It will most likely pull the info from the VO and go from there... Worth a shot... I had all those lights on after my programming... I moved the vehicle and they all went off...
Let us know what happens...
Cheers!!
Thanks for the reply. ISTA/P is what caused the EGS/TCM to lose communication on the CAN bus. So you replaced the mechatronic? Did you get a new one? I am now trying to use WinKFP and INPA to see if I can directly access the module. Both ISTA/D and ISTA/P show the EGS/TCM is offline.

I fixed the module. I was able to recode it and it won't need a new mechatronic.
Good day!!
I have been working crazy hours and I will finally get another chance to get my EGS to function properly and communicate with the TCM properly... I was still getting hard shifts and it went to failsafe almost immediately after the first night... I'm literally back to square one with mine (I have an E53)... I will be making another attempt to program the EGS tomorrow... Did you look at the EGS after programming using INPS?? Did you get a new (correct) VIN?? I noticed that after I programmed my EGS the first and only time, INPA still had it with the old VIN... The final report said everything went correctly... I'm ready to look into alternative programming software as my faith in ISTA/P has proven less than efficient thus far with both of my E53's...
Anyone recommend better deep core module programming? The WinKPS doesn't see the EGS in the transmission due to it connection bus...
Glad you got yours sorted!!
Thanks all!!!
Make sure your WinKFP UIF update settings (the checkboxes) are checked if you want the VIN and new flash date/ZB Number to show.
WinKFP is the way to go. It does everything on mid-modern E chassis.

Go find someone with autologic. It works a lot better on this tcm versus winkfp.

Reviving this thread hoping to a solution for same problem.
Used ISTA/P with Dcan to update EGS GM1912 and now there is no response from this controller. The transmission is in limp mode the dash lights (four) on. I get no response (009 code ) from controler in INPA, Tool32, WinkFP, ISTA-D and ISTA-P. Left he battery unplugged, tried NFS emergency flash... but nothing works. Simply no response from controller.
How did you guys revive your revive your TCM? Would ICOM clone help in this situation?
I am afraid I might have to remove mechatronic if nothing works.
Any suggestions/help from would be appreciated.
Thanks
Harry
Wow, ISTA-P with anything other than ICOM is super risky. Honestly the pirated copies everywhere should not encourage using ista-p with emulator.
Anyways,
You forgot to mention what car this was on.
Have you tried winKFP expert mode yet? It's much more powerful than comfort mode.

The vehicle in question is '08 E83 X3 with GM 6L45. I didn't try WinKFP in expert mode. Currently reading WinKFP guide and give it a try in Expert mode.
Thanks for suggestion .
I had a similar issue with my e90 when attempting to update all modules using ISTAp. I first tested the modules ability to communicate using Tool Set 32, and then I programed each module individually using WinKFP.

Hi everyone, I also made the same mistake and tried to update the software through INPA/P with K+KCAN, now it show bunch of failure messages. After triying to re start INPA/P and D there was no connection. Also disconnected the battery for two hours, but did not help.
So, what are my options now? I am considering to go to BMW tomorrow, but have no idea how muc it woul cust.
Please give me some help/recommendations...
Thanks in advance
Either take it to BMW, or buy an ICOM and flash it. Or maybe find someone with an ICOM to help out.
Genuine original "ICOM Next" from the dealer is around 500-600 euros, it's a great tool.
Chinese ICOM A2 clones are around 200eur and work fine, when you choose a quality clone.

Agree with 328 Power,
I had given up hope to revive my TCM as it failed to respond to anything via DCAN. Ended up ordering a cheap ICOM Next clone. It detected the module stuck in programming status 15 and took an hour to restore it. Learned my lesson, listen to advice offered here and order ICOM.
I also ordered an ICOM A3, but still no communication.
Hmm, you may have brought an additional potential problem to the equation... The ICOM A3 is a complete Chinese invention, very different than the genuine ones. So I honestly don't know the limitations to those. Maybe it will be fine.
You're still trying ISTA-P?
You need to recover with WinKFP, possibly expert mode. WinKFP communicates one module at a time, and it can also "force flash" non responsive modules. You would need to code each one with NCSExpert after flashing.
Steps to recover:
-Find out which modules are stuck in programming mode/bricked
-Find out the flash ZUSB number (flash version), you might have to use RealOEM for this
-Set up WinKFP correctly with newish daten, configure it correctly
-Load the ZUSB number intended for your bricked module, and flash. Make sure you have a quality battery charger on car.

Thanks 328 Power 04,
This is very useful information that you gave, but I have couple questions:
1. How is it possible to find out bricked modules, and ZUSB numbers for them.
I still have the print out of the test plan for the upgrade. The numbers there are BMW module ordering numbers.
Will it be possible to get them with WinKFP?
Is this for your 118d? What month and year production?
Which modules have no communication in INPA/ISTA-D?
And yes, the measures plan from ISTA-P is very wise to have, as the flash versions there are what you will choose in WinKFP.

Then I would begin with flashing and stock coding gateway and/or junction box modules, CAS, etc.
First check that your ICOM actually works on a known car, so you don't chase the wrong error. I haven't ever seen the error you describe.
