I believe the M parts were available through out our vehicle life span of production. The option package name changed year over year but the individual parts did not..
there are many out there with Sport suspension, wheels, aero package (M front and rear bumpers) and the interior parts are the same story, M or sport wheels, sport seats, etc. the only thing that is "special" about the last year of production is that the "new" X5 stole all the sales so there were very few sold in the US. The last year production has all the improvements that were introduced each year so they were standard. Post your build sheet info and you will see the differences.

I don't understand why I have to click on the "Go Advanced" tab all the time instead of simply hitting "Reply to this Thread".

Anywho, lots of plans in the works for my wagon next spring. I have some minty clean Style 85's, 18x9 for the rear and 18x8 up front, going on the car once winter is done.

Looking at stereo upgrades; will probably end up with the Dynavin N7.

I have 2 tone theme going in the interior. You'll notice that I have the sand/beige interior, yet my upper door cards and dash are black. Guess I lucked out, because I think the other colour (olive ish) is not nearly as nice.

I've taken some black interior parts (carpet inserts by the knees) and have attempted to blend them into the overly beige interior. See if I can get some pics going tomorrow.

I can get my hands on a parts car with a full M package. The black Alcantara headliner looks sooo nice. Alas, I have a wagon, so there's not much sense in pulling that out. But then what if I did, and I had a nice even line where I cut it, and it switched from black to beige just behind the rear seats ?!? Always toying with ideas for this car.

I hated the wagon wheels at first now they have grown on me. The ability to rotate tires is always nice too!

I may have found a slate green/beige 525i to bring to the registry. Not an m-sport, but it doesn't have SLS! We'll see...

This posting is for wagons with little motors period. It sucks to be those guys with chain and guide problems. Meanwhile our little mouse motors are purring along, slowly but happy in their contentment. Dripping oil, barfing a Oil Separator line or two, and maybe a Oil Filter housing leak, but not one has a pan full of chain guide pieces.....

The only ones suffering chain guide problems are the ones who have neglected the chain guides. In my opinion, they deserve it. Always has been a known issue with the M62, no reason for it to get to that failing point. Don't get me wrong, I love my 528 wagon, but the smooth purr of my 540 and it's acceleration is like a drug, when driving the 528, I'm always redlining it just to get a small feel of that high.

Ok so my slate green wagon didn't work out They guy knew the slight rarity in the color and had an emotional attachment to it.

    BUT

I just bought a 2003 525iT Sport(GE10836) - Schwarz II exterior with a black interior with 103k miles sight unseen from Tulsa and having it shipped to my driveway. Should be delivered in about a week. I had the dealership it was sitting at take a lot of pictures for me. It has pretty much every option except for NAV and heated seats. The only issue with it is an ABS light is on so I might have to send it out for rebuild, but worth it to join the wagon club. Will properly introduce the car with pictures upon delivery.

$5k purchase price for the wagon and another $500 to ship it. I think this is fair for the miles and the black/black combo because I couldn't find any others in decent shape. I know the M54 motor like the back of my hand now. STOKED.

One of the interesting parts of the car is it bounced around a few dealers and was deemed a fleet vehicle. Just before it found its new home in Oklahoma it was in New York so that means just before it came south it had to pass a New York inspection, and it was even detailed by one of the dealers before arriving here. I anticipate a very clean and squared away wagon as a baseline for me to work with. I had them send me pictures of the undercarriage and there isnt a single sign of oil leaks. The oil pan is perfectly dry as well as the trans pan. They inspected suspension components and said they were all in good shape. Although I have my concerns I think I might have actually purchased a 100k mile e39 that won't need any immediate work! Even if it does I'll enjoy every second of the troubleshooting and repair.

Here is the carfax showing its last activity before my purchase-

Update: Pics at the dealer before the transport picks it up tomorrow and delivers on Tuesday 2/20. It's like amazon prime for buying a car! They also replaced the ABS unit and no more ABS light! Very very cool dealership to work with though.

Got my wagon on the 20th, delivered right to the driveway covered in dirt and grime. I had quite the eventful first day with my car...

We drove it to go get some food and the acceleration is not smooth at all. It was surging in the lower rpm range, but on the highway it smoothed out. Decide to run it through a touchless car wash to get some of the grime off. Let the car idle through the carwash, pull out and then the brake pedal gets rock hard, car dies. Try to start it and see white smoke coming from the exhaust, eventually get the car to turn over and it struggles to idle, any application of the gas pedal kills it. I knew I read somewhere about water doing something to the car so with a heavy heart I checked under the drivers side cabin air filter. Found a solid 5 inches of soapy water or so, enough to cover half the brake booster. Immediately got in there and cleared the drain hole, all the water drains out. People are stopping to check on me thinking my car just puked all its oil out. Tried to start the car several times and got it to idle, but it was awful. SES light came on, white smoke coming out of the exhaust still. Tried to feather the gas to see if I could get the rpms up and anything over 2.5k would kill it at this point. I got it to start again and we let it idle for a good 15 minutes while the kids screamed in the back seat because we were on the way to feed them. Managed to get the car in reverse and let the idle speed slowly back us into a parking lot. Car stayed running so we put it in drive and idle cruised around the parking lot, then I slowly applied more pedal, and sure enough the white smoke stopped. We made some laps around the empty parking lot with confused stares and eventually the car came back to life, but it still had the SES I had no clue of. We hopped on the interstate and I was able to cruise to 60 on the way home. If I pushed the pedal past 3k or more it would cause the car to go into a limp mode and lose power. Made it home and pulled the plugs and the DISA. Found the DISA was busted so I used some JB Weld to get the hex piece to attach to the flap and get it working temporarily. Ordered GAS DISA kit. Managed to drive it to work today, cleared the SES light which ended up being Misfire on Cyl 2 and 6, pulled the plugs on those and found all the plugs are BMW NGK plugs which have probably been in there forever. They looked ancient and way past their lifespan. Ordered Plugs. Ordered Vanos seals. Ordered Valve Cover Gasket. Ordered a couple Mann Oil Filters and picked up some Walmart Mobil1. Car is now running perfectly fine and I havent changed the oil yet because I dont have a filter. I was convinced I killed the motor on day 1, but I dodged the bullet....so far I think I did atleast. The DISA JB Weld repair fixed my surging idle, and the car now pulls pretty good, but I do think it needs vanos seals, and thats a pretty fun job to do. Anyways, lesson learned...CLEAN OUT THE DRAIN HOLE UNDER THE BRAKE BOOSTER. I feel very lucky to have made it out alive.

Here is the only good shot I have for now, it needs headlights sanded badly, and a good detail. Very satisfied with the car, Needs nothing outside of a good tuneup. Suspension components are all good, and it has a new set of Altimax arctics which are an excellent all season tire. They have some crazy tread and are meant for ice. I dont really need that in TN, but they are smooth so Im not gonna change what seems to be good. Black interior is in okay shape. The drivers seat has had way too much armorall applied and its very shiny from top to bottom. The other seats have the nice matte patina. Rear sunshades are all in perfect shape, even the quarter windows. My kids will soon make sure they turn to plastic bits lol.

^^^ OMG man...SO glad that worked out.

That sucks you had that initial issue but pleased to hear you got it straightened out. Sounds like you are really happy with the find regardless. (I'm still rolling that hack fix I did on my DISA....at least till I get the GAS kit..)

lol on the kids and the destruction of interior bits that are in perfectly good shape.

I took two of our daughter's friends home from a dance the other night...so three kids across the back seat. One of them, sitting in the middle rear, had her feet propped up on the back of the armrest and rear vent. My 9-year old daughter looked over at her and very coolly said "you know...you're taking your life in your own hands putting your feet up on my dad's car..!!"....

    Enjoy your touring WBAD !!

WBAD530i, Nice find and glad it worked out so far. How did you pick a car hauler ? Been trying to find a 72-73 2002 and they all seem to be on the west coast.

@adm - LOL! Sounds like you have taught your daughter well. My daughter and my son still kick the back of my seats vigorously and have no regard for the things I value. They are still young though, and will be taught that lesson very soon!

@jp5 - I didn't have to do any research on transport. The dealer in Oklahoma actually arranged the whole thing. It was $600 total for shipping from Tulsa, OK to Nashville, TN. (About an 8 hour commute one way). I think thats a fair price for the convenience of it as I would not have been able to make a road trip for 8 hours just to pick it up and have something fail on the way home.

I did do one of the online transport quotes for this distance and the price would have only been off around $100. You have to keep in mind you have no control on when they can pick the car up and schedule delivery, could take weeks. Luckily this dealer used this same transport company all the time and they are local so thats how I managed to get it picked up next day and delivered in two days. There is one spot on the hood which almost looks like something dripped off a car that was above it and it messed up the clearcoat. Maybe trans or brake fluid. Quarter size spot that looks like it melted in a way. I didn't notice at the time until I sprayed off the car so theres no way I can contact anyone about it. Already signed off on the transport paper which details any imperfections of the car. Dont really care enough anyways. Hood respray isnt that big of a deal, especially for schwarz II paint.

    Greetings, everyone.

Here are the details of my 2003 525iAT Sport:

I have been replacing nearly every steering/suspension part on this machine. It currently has 143k miles and runs great.
All 5 of my original wheels are bent, so I have been contemplating getting them refurbished or just getting refurbished ones from RockAuto. For the time being, I’m running my old Lexus ISF wheels with custom made bolt-on adapters.
I am a former Indycar engineer, so I do my own work in my shop at home.
My Touring joins two other Bimmers in the garage; my 04 330i ZHP and 04 330ci ZHP convertible.
    Glad to be here!!!
