Just read through your build. Like what you have done, the colours you chose for the block looks clean 👌

E36 318i/is radiator will not fit with intercooler and electric fan.

I got honda civic half width two row aluminum unit

There is also space left for the oil cooler which should supplement the main cooling system really nice

Progress is kind of slow lately but i manage to finish wiring loom and IC piping is 90% done.

I also built oil distribution block out
of chunk of aluminum. It will provide oil pressure to dummy light switch and autometer sender. Oil will be supplied from original oil switch location using banjo to AN fitting.

Yesterday i picked up small case lsd from e36. It will get the job done until i swap medium case.

I finished radiator brackets today. I also got rid of the majority of the seam sealer.

Tomorrow i will prep the car for sandblasting. It should be ready for primer in couple of days.

I got the rest of the tilton goodies yesterday. It fits great. I had to chop around 0.75" from the pilot tube. Also bolt pattern on tilton is a bit different than pilot bearing cover but 2 out of 3 holes are lined up. It will be enough to keep the TO from moving towards the engine.

Blasting day. I sand blasted all hard to get spots in the engine bay.

Also i realigned an welded trigger wheel.

Lastly i modified stock m50 throttle body. I welded 4" extension. 3" silicone coupler does not fit the stock tb well enough.

I think i figured out my bottom end setup for the next season.

I just need to write it somewhere before i forget.

    So here it is.

Stock m10 block. Deck height 217.5mm

    Stock 2.0 crank 80mm stroke

    Cxracing s14 rods 144mm

Aircooled vw forged pistons. 92mmx89mm stroker pistons type b with 34mm compression height.

    Empi 98-1993-B or Mahle k70461.

    S14 head gasket.

The pistons will end up sticking 0.5mm above the deck but with 1.75mm head gasket (0.07") it should have enough clearance.

    144+40(half the stroke)+34 =218

I guess it should work perfectly.

    0.5mm =0.0197"
    1.75mm =0.069"

    Quench/squish= 0.048"

It seems that 0.04" is a magic quench number for optimum combustion. Anything lower and pistons might contact the head. Higher numbers will have negative effects on resistance to detonation and overall performance.

Let me know what you think.

Designed rear strut brace. Its just the prototype i might have to adjust couple things. .19" chromoly plate and 1"x0.83" chromoly tube.

    Thank you BMWslav for motivation

Don't do "hinge" points for the ends . If mounted that way it's not as beneficial. More like this https://www.iemotorsport.com/bmw/200...g/02stb02.html Or welded solid and bolt in only like a Sparco on the E30.

What did you use for blasting media, glass, aluminum oxide, grit? I need to do the same to my engine bay. I want to use a media that get's the job done but doesn't warp the sheet metal...thanks.

Black diamond blasting media from menards.

To be honest i didnt care about warping anything in the bay. E21 have fairly thick. Sheet metal in the engine compartment and its engine compartment so 80% of it will not be visible.

Engine is in. Still need to attach the tranny mount.

I was amazed how flexible that product is. Adhesive is strong and it should perform really good. The heat barrier os good to 1800 or 2000 degree F

It is a fiberglass fabric with aluminum facing. It should nicely reflect the heat and protect the paint underneath.

Project looks really good. Was ordering some Thermo cool myself the other day. I've never tried this brand, but looks promising based off your pics. Have some DEI stuff on the M3 cause needed to keep from melting passenger shoe bottoms over the X pipe It works but kinda like a diaper inside some foil with the fiberglass mat. DEI runs more $ and not super happy with the adhesive. The Thermo product looks to be close. If it does the job with better pricing then great. Was browsing by thickness cause when paper thin might as well use hvac tape. If had the gold foil tape you'd be faster

Started the downpipe yesterday. I might need to pie cut some bends to move it closer to the fender.

    M10T in 6 weeks on a budget

Put the downpipe in. It fits really nice.

I modified the stock tacho to be able to drive it with 0-5v logic output. I used irfz44 mosfet ( i know its an overkill but thats what i had handy) for the pullup circuit. I jbwelded it to the back of the tacho plate.

Thank you bassboy for the decals. I could not remove the needles. I didn't want brake em so i added some vinyl to the tacho plate.

I also installed extra jumpers in ms2 for tacho out and boost control out.

I will build boost control circuit and mount the irfz mosfet and resistors in a separate box and i will mount it on the same bracket as the boost solenoid.

I have two evenings to put the IC pipes together, Figure out Idle control valve plumbing. And mount the additional power distribution box.

Also need to finish the hydro clutch plumbing.

where's the smiley past 120mph? lol old good n tight reference couldn't help it

Like the pie cuts to make the downpipe fit. Any notes on break in? If not here's a blurb how I see it. Everyone has an idea how to break in your nice new engine, but I've always used a hard break in vs putting it around. I'm all for the quicker harder break in's. Taking note on engine load is pretty much key. Ring seat is going to happen quick, so really only get one chance at it. The first miles are the most important. If weak break in the rings just don't form a great seal as they could. I assume you'll be using low to no boost for break in and then apply boost. Can even use warm water when filling the engine to get a head start on warm up. After a min or so of warm up I immediately use medium rpms and loads. Example 3000 to 5000 rpm range up to 50% load. Try not to idle. Can adjust the idle after break in so wouldn't even worry about setting an idle. Rpms and loads are progressively raised using burst runs of short acceleration and deceleration. No engine lugging ever; always use more rpms vs lugging, remember it's load on the motor. It's better to use a lower gear and higher rpms before lugging the motor. It's how the load is applied that is more important than how high you rev. Just no redline rips yet. Keep close eyes on oil and water temps. Change oil after burst runs and initial break in. I actually change it frequently on the first few hundred miles. I also like to use a cheapo lesser synthetic oil with a touch of zinc. I use off the shelf Valvoline synthetic from walmart. Idea is to let things wear and seat in, then after a few changes I put the oil I'll actually run in it. I like liqui moly cause it's just about freezes the wear process and noticeably less oil consumption than other brands I've used.

Great advise on the break in but sadly i will have to wait till i build the motor haha. This one is stock 120k mile m10. I just put new hg and arp head studs.

I will build 2.1 motor over the winter and use it next season. I shot for 30+ psi and 350whp + on e85. I might also switch to ms3x and run sequential fuel.

whaah? man don't say that. No offense but i'd at minimum hit that bitch with a flex hone and re-ring it. Least freshen it a bit. I understand waiting on doing a more build bottom end. But to maximize what you got even a 1.8/2.0 stock with that setup 300+whp isn't out of the question. I think Otis (goodntight) S'd one of the connecting rods about 385hp? man it's been forever but think he was also feeding it nitrous. It may of even been 485hp when it blew I can't remember was a long time ago.
Sequential injection isn't worth much IMO vs batch. If anything the "wasted fuel" helps

I know but for this season it will not see more than 200whp. I want to see what the bone stock internals can handle.

Otis had forged pistons. I believe JE's and stock rods.
And yes he was feeding NO2 and running e85.

I have no business going over 200hp until i finish my e28 front suspension and rear subframe swap. And its just not going to happen this season

    M10T in 6 weeks on a budget

I welded IC piping last Saturday.

Also my friend Justus hooked up megasquirt and did tha basic config and started the engine. It seems that wiring to MS is perfect. The only problem was reversed wiring to crank position sensor.

Idle is high because there are thousand vacum leaks. Notice beautiful LS truck coils with one custom made msd ignition wire and 3 honda civic i wires.

Msd 8.5mm wires are absolute pain to assemble.
