Yesterday I configured ms2 for my setup.

I added driver for lsx coils
Tip120 for 2-wire pwm idle control
    Cooling fan relay driver.

I loaded the firmware and it is good to go.

Would you rather run manual boost controller or use MS to control the boost?

Now who got a good base tune and want to share?

    I run ms2v3.0 with ms2extra 3.4.2

    Thank you

Does newer MS have boost by gear? I know it's a favorite with AEM guys especially street use driver friendly.

Pretty sure MS3 has boost by gear, not to sure about MS2 tho. At the end of last season I installed a boost control solenoid and connected it to my MS2. I havent gotten around to playing with it yet

Curious if you've decided on the turbo you're going to use. I opted for a TD04HL-16T out of a 2002 Volvo 60 series for my M42 build. There are limitations to it but it's a good cheap starting point. Plus there are inexpensive rebuild kits available for this turbo family. An additional benefit to it is that you can swap out the cold side for a bigger compressor wheel should you feel the need for more boost. Have a look at ARD tuning.

I went with kkk k24 from audi 3b. My friend is running volvo (s60r) version of this turbo in his 2.3 8 valve (b23) volvo 242. He squeezed 258whp at 20psi out of it.

    M10T in 6 weeks on a budget

I started this week with freshly blasted intake, timing covers and compressor housing.

I also wrinkle painted valve cover. Results are ok but i have other cover which i might wrinkle paint an bake it to reduce the wrinkle size.

I got my arp headstuds. I need to clean up the garage before i pull the head. It came to the point that there is so much crap on garage's floor that it is almost impossible to walk without stepping on something

I expecting my manifold to arrive tomorrow.

I also got a set of eurometric bushes.

I still need intercooler and piping and turbo oil/coolant lines.

    Plan for this week?

Get a bottle of argon for my tig.
Fab up adapter for m50 throttle body.
Send turbo shaft and wheel for balancing
Get paint for the engine bay
Remove battery bracket and some other random crap from engine bay.

That also happens to me a lot. I also gauge by how much trouble it is to reach the beer fridge I'll go into full on "clean slate" the work space before continuing. I'm avoiding any engine work until the major metal cutting work is finished.

I lose motivation when I have a cluttered messy workspace. Once I clean up my mess, I feel ready to tackle the next item on the list.

How do you like the electric wrench? Been thinking about buying one, but have no real world experience with them. Yours looks like its seen some use.

I love that little thing. Maybe it is not the strongest but once you brake bolt loose it will undo it in no time. Intake manifold nuts were a breeze with it. Saves a lot of time. Its one of my favorite tools.

I would recommend sticking to Milwaukee brand. I also looking to get 1/2" Milwaukee impact. No more air hoses trying to kill you and obstructing clear path to the beer fridge.

Little update. I tried putting k24 apart and the stupid compressor wheel got stuck to the shaft. Heating, soaking and tapping did not help. And finally the shaft and wheel got busted and i need to find a new turbo.

I got my eye on BW s251 undivided .63ar v-band hotside from agp. Apparently it is efficient up to 40lb/min.

It will leave me a lot of room for upgrades. It will probably support up to 35psi and close to 350-380hp.

I am just worried it will be to laggy. There is also s246 which will
    Max out at around 35lb/min.

    Any recommendations?

I would like to pay not more than $800 for brand new turbo.

    Thank you

Omg. My manifold arrived. Otis did a wonderful job putting it together.

I also got my eurometric bushings.

I also did more research on the BW turbos and it seems that sx200sxe 52mm turbo aka sx-e252 will work great for my application. Might not be super optimal right now but i am sure i will blow stock motor and will upgrade to forged 2.0 later this year and that is where this turbo will shine. 20-35psi boost range.

I pulled the trigger and ordered Borg Warner s252sxe with t3 undivided v-band .63 ceramic coated housing

Ill be melting some pistons, annihilating some ring lands and wandering into the regions of plastic deformation of conrods.

    M10T in 6 weeks on a budget

Today i got a bottle of argon so i can weld throttle body adapter to the manifold. Also i got a quart of single stage urethane and primer to paint the valence and engine bay.

I cut off the battery bracket to test fit e36 318 radiator. I will lean the top of the radiator towards the engine to make more room for intercooler and piping.

I will clean the head later tonight, slap new hg and arp studs.

I replaced all valve stem seals yesterday.

Today i cleaned head and block and prepared it for new headgasket.

Where is the best place to drain the turbo? I have seen passenger side oil pan or front of the oil pan.

Something was fighting with Helmut's piston

Also i found that the edge of one of the bores have two chips.

On the m10s that I have done, including my race engine, I have drilled and tapped the bottom of the block instead of dumping into the pan. I also saw someone tap the bottom of the timing cover. As long as it is above the oil line, and no place for oil to stop in the line, you should be fine.

Curious how you are installing the m42 radiator overflow tank lower hose connection to the m10. I was thinking of doing that to mine when i was m10 turbo, but that quickly went out the window when I decided to do m20 turbo instead

I still have to figure this one out.

I believe it connects to heater core return on m42. I might fab up new return pipe ( read chop and weld a tee )with a provision for expansion/overflow tank.

Today i finished welding k-jet holes in my head. What a pain. I have only 200amps to spare and this huge chunk of aluminum is not helping at all.

I also painted intake and timing covers

    Yesterday was a Laundry day.

I cleaned up and measured cylinder head for warpage. I could not fit .0015 feeler anywhere.

After cleaning i put the valvetrain back together.

    I also cleaned intake manifold.

Today i will clean all misc bits and pieces i.e. Oil filter housing, motor mounts, fuel rail etc.

And most likely tomorrow i will be ready to close the motor with new headgasket.
