What is the process to replace the fog lamp bracket on either side of an E38 2000 750IL?
I replaced my fog lamps (prior owner curbed and broke one lens) on my 2000 750IL using info on here about pressing a round cylinder (I used a Philips screwdriver) in the nearby hole in the low grill to release them.
To reinstall them, I just pressed them back in place.
Maybe that was my first mistake on this project.
In any case, I heard a small snapping sound and one of the fog lamps no longer is snug in its place.
Although I didn't see anything on my dirty garage floor, I'm guessing a piece of overly fatigued plastic is there.
I see on eBay, that I can buy OEM replacement brackets cheaply but I didn't see anywhere how to actually do the replacement.
Instead of directly asking one of the sellers, I thought I would ask on this forum so others can benefit by your answer as well.
1. Was simply pressing the new lamps in place the wrong method? If so, what should I have done?
2. How do I replace the mounting bracket on each side? I want to do this on both sides while in the process if age and fatigue are the likely culprits.
THANK YOU!
Generally accepted method is what you used.
Sound you heard was not uncommon.
Rather than buying things, I'd suggest a dopple of 'Gorilla Glue' on each end of each foglight....desired effect will be what you wish, and somewhat disquiet the 'midnight supply' folks from any further advances on your 'baby'.
Age and fatigue have a LOT to do with it.
When the light shatters, you will have to REMOVE the Gorilla Glue, so only use a 'dopple' in each spot. Age and fatigue will not be kind to you if you use a 'GOB' or 'BLOB'. So far, it works for me, and I am aged and fatigued.
