    new to me 325i 2006

I just bought my son a very nice 06 325i.
We pick it up tomorrow nite and know there is only 1 key fob that goes with it.

What does it take to get a second one?
I have searched here and cannot find a clear answer and online about a second fob and am hoping its not a strictly dealer item...because i am sure that wouldnt be cheap.

My inability to find an accurate thread here may be due in part to my ignorance of BMW's. lol and all the different chassis types.

    Anyways, any help is appreciated.
Where to find one, how much it is, can I program it or again strictly a dealer item. I did find where it is a DIY thing to program a key on here tho. But this fob sticks into the dash like a key...but its not a key.

New keys are best purchased from your local BMW dealer (BMW of Cincinnati North most likely). They have to be ordered for your particular vehicle from BMW NA. Cost varies but generally in the $130 range. Takes a few days to get but when you pick it up, they will program it for your vehicle. You will need to provide proof of ownership when ordering the key, generally a Title and Drivers license will do. After you have another key, mark your calender and switch them out very 4-6 months to keep them charged.

If you know the previous owners name, you may be able to locate them on Google, give them a call and ask if they have another key.

10-4, thanks. 130 is not too bad considering its a pretty fancy little item.

We pick it up tomorow evening...and the prev owner only has the one fob...maybe be able to go backt o the owner befpre them (buying from a person not a dealer) so the owner before them was 5 years ago...so i doubt its still around.

but the piece of mind having that second key, well invaluable.

    thanks again.
I am sure i wll be full of questions as my ownership progresses.
