hello folks
I am thinking about buying a 2006 750li with 75k miles. I've read several negatives about this model, but I think it is very elegant and just can't seem to get it out of my head. I am a pretty handy guy and can do my own basic maintenance. I have owned a few older beamers before and so I'm some what familiar as to how to work on them. Is there any body here that has some positives on this model? I'd love to hear on why I should get one, or why I should "run away" as I've read elsewhere. Thank you for your time.

Buy a dlp module out of a 07 or 08 totaled E65 Alpina and you could (if the prior owner doesn't transfer it to another car) get satellite radio for life.
Well that doesn't really answer his question. LOL
If you want to put gas in the car and drive it for ten years, no, it won't happen. Not unless you want the car to be falling apart by then. If it even makes it that long. They do require regular maintenance, and repairs that if ignored, can lead to much more problems. Have the car inspected by a reputable BMW shop or dealership. They'll be able to tell you what kind of service it needs. These engines are notorious for oil leaks, and valve stem seals that harden causing increased oil consumption and smoking at idle from the exhaust. There's a lot more that can go wrong, maybe try searching this forum. They are great cars, and nothing drives like them, but keep in mind you'll be maintaining and fixing a car that cost $100k when it was new. Just because it costs $10k now doesn't mean it's as cheap to fix as a $10k car.

Oops, you're right. The car is known for oil leaks and at times problems with the comfort access. Yes it was expensive when new and also expensive to maintain if taken to dealers or indies. I'm a DIY kind of guy. I can only tell you that other than oil changes on my 08 E65 I've had no problems so far. Please note that mine is not my daily drive, and so far I only have 20k miles on the clock.
I put 55.000 km for 3 years, I rebuild tranny and did valve cover and timing chain gaskets, and all the rubber inside. Also changed radiator and ac condenser and all the coolant hoses(preventive) Thats about 3400 usd. Plus oil changes and filters. Tyres are also relatively expensive...
BUT, every time I drive this beauty with V8, I get my smile widely and I drove big and fast cars, but feeling in a 2.2t car and acceleration from zero to 100km/h in just 5.9 sec, doesnt have a price. And even the trip is 1000km, You are fresh and clean. Not tyred when I was driving 5 or 3 series.
Be prepare always to look for a possible repair, because this cars has lots of electronics, but very good number of repairs u could DIY...lots of good stuff and good people owning e65/e66. I drove 750li with 169.000km on the clock. Restyle.

Even tho I see you posted in January, just wanted to say I have that same car and love it. Had it now for about 4 years and it's had a couple minor things go wrong, nothing that over the top moneywise. So, how do you like your car ?
