    2009 328i to 2013 528i thoughts

    Hi folks,

With warranty out and a need for a bit bigger car; considering to switch to 528i 2013. 328 had inline 6 3L engine with 6 gears; 528 has 2L 4 cyclnder Turbo with 8 gears. HP and Torque numbers are just slightly favorable for 528 but I'm curious how do you think of this move from performance / agility standpoint. Appreciate any advice - if I should consider 535i for a more comparable driving experience, would appreciate hearing that.

    Thank you.

Hello - the 5 series is an excellent overall car - in my opinion you may find the 528i a bit sluggish but with decent torque off the bat coming from the 328i. If you're looking for comfort and room and don't mind not having that 'sporty' feel then get the 528i. If you're looking for a quick, sporty version with the same luxury - 535i is the way to go. Just my 2 cents. Best of luck!

I have to agree, even before owning my 535i I drove several N20 528i cars and they are miserably slow, completely gutless off the line.... that and the N20 engine lacks anything resembling smoothness or refinement becoming of the chassis.

N20 might fly in a 1, 2, 3 series but the F10 is just too heavy for such an underperforming engine.

Any specific year to be looking for or to avoid perhaps in the 535i? My mechanic told me to focus on a N 55 engine. Anything else to look for feature wise etc? Any info would be great thanks.

    Cheers!

All F10 535i's have thew N55. The N54 was phased out several years earlier and the E60 was the last 5 series to get the N54.

2014 up are more desirable due to the Life Cycle Impulse updates on the headlamps, tail lamps, mirrors and on non-msport cars.... the front bumper. There are also changes to the interior although largely small and cosmetic.

The 2014 up cars also got a much improved NBT infotainment system with a capacitive touch iDrive controller. (You can write your navi letters/numbers on it with your finger) or use it as a knob.

The remainder of the cars specifications and options are largely the same.

Thanks for your input. However 2014 might be a tad rich for my blood right now. Was thinking 5 series 2010-2013 the latest. Mind you the higher the year the more bells and whistles with newer technology and all.

    Cheers
