Sorry for the lame post but looking to get 2 new or refurb MAF's for my 850. I used The Google and not finding anything. Checked past posts and nothing relevant (last post was years ago) I can always send them in to Cardone to get refurbished but are there any other options?
Give us a call at 888-280-7799, and one of our BMW parts specialists will be able to help you out - we may have a MAF for your 850i.

[QUOTE=alex840;29560591]Dragon850 rebuilds them and usually has a couple of sets in inventory. He is on the forum.[/QUOTE
This may appear twice, it did not show up the first time I posted it so I am posting it again.
Dragon850 does NOT rebuild MAF sensors. He rebuilds DK motors. Alex - you know that!!

What makes you so sure they are bad or need to be replaced? New ones are very expensive. I put together an airflow test bench to test these and purchased a few used ones and a relatively new one as a reference. They all performed very much the same with only very minor differences (within Bosch spec). My point is these last a long time and not really worth replacing unless obviously defective. I could sell you some used ones guaranteed good.

I'm familiar with your bench test post...good read! So, I've read in several different venues that MAF's are not life time components and overtime the wire will degrade. Now, I've had a rough idle and mixture has been rich since I purchased the car last summer. I've changed out every sensor imaginable, new injectors, plug wires ect and this is the most logical next step....at least without having it run through diagnostics. Feedback is welcome...

Yes I read the same posts (porsche related website I think) - remember these are published by someone who refurbs these for a fee!
I'd remove the wire gauze caps and take a good look at them. Look for any signs of corrosion. Give them a good spray down with MAF cleaner and see if that helps. The idle mixture screw is present on some versions of this MAF but is not used in the 850. I'd try to get your hands on a pair of known good ones to try before spending big $$ on a pair of new ones. As I'm sure others will comment, are you sure your intake manifolds are sealed?
I have the same idle problem and from my research (and responses from our fellow 8ers), the rich and rough idle may be due to an intake manifold leak (common issue I am told). I haven't fixed it yet, but will first thing in the spring. I took mine for emissions, and the it was running rich as hell. Changed the plugs (make sure you have the correct ones if you have stock coils), and PCV (VCV) and that helped a bit. Took it back to emissions, but sort of luckily, I had turned 25 two days earlier and was now exempt (although I would have like to have seen what my maintenance had done).

Thanks guys. Like you, my baby just turned 25 in January. SO, I just finished a top end refresh over the summer and replaced the IM gasket. No leak there. Replaced injectors with Maxlumens and replaced plugs but don't think they were copper. You think plugs would make it run that rich and idle rough?
The plugs didn't fix my idle problem, but it definitely ran a bit smoother. I don't think the stock coil had enough umph for the new higher resistance plugs so you will probably get some miss-fires. The proper ones are NGK BKR6EK. The recommended Bosch ones are now 6k vs the NGK 1k. (don't know why Bosch would change specs on a part number). It may be worth a try.

So, I'm that guy- the one that just throws new parts in until the problem is solved. Mostly because I don't know what I'm doing and that just seems easier....and I get to replace something that is 25 years old. In this case it seems to have worked. Just finished installing new MAF's and car runs a ton smoother and more responsive. Unfortunately I have no baseline since I never tested the old ones or ran and diagnostics but this seems to have smoothed out the idle and made it a bit more responsive. In case anyone is interested the brand is Walker (no indication of where is made) from Rock auto...about $150ea.
Just need to throw in the correct plugs and she'll be good to go.
Unfortunately I'm still getting what seems like too much white exhaust smoke. I'm thinking the mixture is rich?

Very interesting, Walker started to make MAFs for our cars, that's pretty cool I think, since they already make a go to replacement catalytic converters for an 850.
When you installed the MAFs did you get a chance to look through the mesh screen? Was there a 4 wire sensor there or a Chinese style single sensor?
I did peep it and it was a single wire sensor. Does that denote a Chinese origin? I looked closely and it didn't say one way or another. Another fun fact, it has that brass screw. Not sure what it adjusts and not planning on finding out.

Unfortunately yes, re branded Chinese mafs.. You're not gonna be too happy with them...
Dragon850, I was looking to get a couple spare MAFs. What is so bad about the single wire sensor? Does it go bad faster?
