Hi, I have a 2001 BMW E53 X5 4.4i sport and it keeps having huge oil leaks. It was running perfectly before I had an oil change, air filter replaced and oil filter replaced by my mechanic. First huge amounts of oil squirted out of the oil cap so i had it replaced, then huge amounts of oil squirted out of the crankshaft seal so i had it replaced. Now there's another oil leak but i don't know what's broken this time yet. All this happened within a couple of weeks so there has to be an issue. too high oil pressure? If so why is this happening? Thanks for the help.
I own a '05 E53. Last week it had a huge oil leak on the right side of the valve cover. It occured after starting 1st thing in the morning (the outside temp was 6°F). Root cause was a frozen CCV valve causing high pressure in the crankcase.
That makes sense!
Hi, still looking at this thread? Did you buy the cold weather ccv valve kit when you replaced it? I have cold winters also and have the same car.
