    e39 v8 biturbo diesel "540d"

    hello everyone im new to this forum, and i was wondering if anyone have ever came across this project?
    i sure can use some help as im going to do this, finally brought home a 740da.
    it is the wiring part that im most concerned about

    You are in the right place. Pleanty of expertise to walk you through in the forums. It'll be time consuming but I imagine the simplest way to do it would be to put everything from the e38 into the e39...... EVERYTHING!!

    you will need a e39 V8 front cross member, everything for the front.
    wireing is not to bad, follow 1 and 1 cable from the ECU box and to the end.
    mostly wires will go in behind dash.
    will you be doing manual gearbox?

    yea i that i have =) i will be doing auto for now as my donor car is complete and they were only made in auto, so auto + e46 m3 smg steering wheel with paddles so i can use the steptronic with paddlas =)
    maybe in future a 6speed from 530d

    Hi,

    An idea that's popped into my mind a fair few times now and awesome to see an enthusiast actually doing it !

    I'd personally go for a manual conversion for the gearbox and also some custom ECU Re-mapping, EGR bypass, de-cat exhaust & freer flow centre/back box. The E38 variant of the engines weren't all that powerful in standard form; 1998-2000 models being around 235 HP and the later 2000-2002 models being 242 HP. With some good upgrades I think 310-330 HP would be relatively easy to achieve and more if custom turbo's and larger injectors used, perhaps 350-370 hp.

    What are your plans for once the engine/gearbox are in and running? will you modify it for more power/torque? hopefully there'll also be a decent enough V8 Diesel sound from the exhausts too!

    Looking forward to updates !

    hey, sorry for a late update we have been quite busy as this is going intense forward =)

    right now i chose to go with the 740d automatic gearbox (zf 5hp30) as it is very strong and can handle quite alot, so i want to push it and go with it for a while, to make things fun i upgraded to the m3 smg steering wheel with paddles and the gearbox reprogrammed so, it can now in manuall mode with paddles and will not change the gear even if pushed to rev limiter meaning its fully manuall mode!

    i have upgraded to a large IC:
    INTERCOOLER 560X290X76MM BITURBO that is good for 900hp with guarantees.
    De-cat, downpipe with 2.5' straightpipe all the way (i have an eismann race exhaust backbox that will be added if the straightpipe is too loud) hehe i want to cruise on highway aswell without dying.
    i have my eyes on e65 745d bi turbo setup with manifold (org 330hp) that i want to buy and put on mine, and the injectors, after this going for a custom remap and will try push 400hp with 800nm atleast.


    also, big update! the engine is in the car, and we already started it up pictures and video will come =)
