Hi guys,
Been trying to read up and found a few threads, but haven't quite confirmed what my 2013 550i M-sport HP/Torque numbers are. I read that in 2013 BMW added their Valvetronic setup to the N63 motor and should be at 445 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque. It certainly feels like it is, damn thing is a beast!
I also keep seeing how unreliable the N63 is. Is it hit or miss or almost guaranteed to be a problem at some point? My rig was a leased vehicle (one owner) and appears to have been serviced completely by BMW until I bought it from a dealership that snatched it from auction at 49K miles . I did, however, buy an extended warranty for the car as I know how expensive repairs can already be on a BMW. Now I am even more glad I got the extra warranty if I can expect serious problems with the motor...
Well I'm already feeling the heat of this car - it likely has a leaky injector. No codes or noticeable power loss, but it SMELLS so bad on startup to shutdown. Something is NOT right. Waiting to see if it throws a code so I can take it in under extended warranty. Talked to a shop that does BMWs and they said until it throws a code, warranty company likely won't cover the diagnostic work.
2014 550i has the n63tu which has the 445/480 #'s you mentioned.
Models up to 2013 had 400/450 i believe.
the n63tu was first available in the 2013 6 series i believe and then 2014 550i.
hope that helps
the n63tu fixed alot of reliability issues that the original n63 had.
