I have ran the vorshlag steering shaft for years now, and hate the play in it. Has anyone tried the sikky/new age hot rods steering shaft. My engine is out, and looking for a solution.
Thanks,
Ada,
They play is in the shaft for sure? Flaming river makes all the parts for that shaft. I recall one guy having play in his. Flaming river gave him new parts.
Shouldn't be any play in the shaft... it's solid mechanical linkage, any discrepancy will be from physically visible discrepancy. Now the actual steering rack itself could very well be a different matter.

If you have an actual Vorshlag shaft, yeah, there should be zero play in it. Now some guys were making similar pieces, and I don't think they were taking the time to make them zero-slop. There are also issues with the actual steering rack. Worn racks can have a lot of play around the center. Luckily, they are cheap and can be replaced pretty easily.

Guy had the same issue I think
the stock shaft worked with my swap, vorshlag mounts and headers.
Btw isnt there a way to delete the oem rag joint on the oem shaft?
I ran the year with the e46 shaft and it hit my Vorshlag headers. Pretty sure my Vorshlag motor mounts have lowered the motor a bit making it it. Has anyone tried anything else? I do not want put the Vorshlag one back, as I have little faith with their stuff(I've ran the car on the track for a few years, and their stuff doesn't wear well). I might try to move the steering column a bit.
You need to look over the u-joints themselves. Some of the caps may need pressed in a bit further to take out additional play, then have loctite reapplied to the little button heads that secure them. I had to do this to mine to get it to zero slop out of the box but once I did the joints were rock solid.
