    Great work!

I love watching these swaps. I did all this for my RX7 swap. I had gotten my T56 Magnum Tranzilla from Rockland Standard Gear. That thing was bullet proof and shifted like butter. Sometimes the 2-3 shift can feel notchy on them but not this one.

Have you considered going to an Ford 8.8 diff swap? Is the BMW diff as strong or stronger?
I'm new to the BMW family. Sold the RX7 and bought my E93. (always wanted a convertible)

This thread makes me think I might need to have a new project.
Look! Before our very eyes, the future is becoming the past.

I've been building a barn for the past 9 weeks trying to get it done before winter hits. I hope to get back to this soon.

So I got some time to work on the differential. I think I got it set up okay?

What do you guys think of the pattern?

Then I cut down the bolts for the 1350 adapter. and indicated it so it has minimal runout compared to the stock flange. The stock flange has .0005" runout and my driveshaft adapter has .0007" runout.

Then I painted it so nothing will rust.

Hopefully someone can chime in on the diff pattern? I noticed with the polished gears they seem to show the pattern differently. I have started putting the whole diff back together, so I think I will run it as is unless someone says I'll break it if I do.

I think the pattern looks as good as its likely to get. I had the same issue with my REM polished ford 9" gears. It was just about impossible to read a decent pattern.

Yeah I think the polish is the problem. I emailed DiffsOnline about it and he said that the gears seem to be super shiny. Thing is I used the same REM polisher as he does. Maybe they left mine in the machine too long? I dunno.

I guess if the diff whines I'll know that something is up? Fingers crossed it'll be okay.

I only have two more side shims I can go up to shift the carrier over so no matter what I am within .005" of being perfect.

Here is what they pattern looked like with a .002" skinnier shim. You can see it sort of looks like a V going out towards the outside of the ring gear, which is showing too shallow of a depth.

You can see here the drivers side carrier shim is the 3rd from the thickest ZF makes for getting the pattern and backlash correct.

Finally had some time to work on this project. Got the rear subframe and differential in.

So I have a question.....for those of you that have converted to this diff how did you hook up the speed sensor? My car's plug and the speed sensor plug are different.

Got the new e-brakes assembled for use with the Massive Brakes BBK:

Installed the newly plated rear hubs, wheel studs, and the DSS axles:

So I am doing these custom rear 14" discs and I ran into a small problem. Lee from Massive gave me a drawing for these bushings to fit the larger rotors. His drawing is a bit off. I need to take off about .110" of my bushing so the brake pads line up on the rotor better.

    Rear big brakes installed:

And finally the new wheels installed on the car:

Transmission final install with clutch is next then I can order a driveshaft.

I went with a kit from Lee at Massive Brakes. Its basically you custom build whatever you want.

The rear kit that you see is his 332mm kit with a Wilwood Superlite 4 piston caliper. I made a spacer bushing to space out the caliper to accept the 14" rotor. The 14"/355mm rotor is the largest that Wilwood specs for this caliper, so I am not doing anything crazy or out of the norm. Also, Lee has the only kit that I know of that will maintain the factory rear e-brake drum, which I like since this is a street car.

    https://www.wilwood.com/Calipers/Cal...no=120-13232-N

The front kit I bought is a 14.25"/362mm rotor with the Wilwood Aero 6 caliper. The front is a 6 piston. You can get the Aero 6 in a 4 piston if you wanted. Also you can get the front caliper extra wide with .80" thick front pads, but Lee says that's more for endurance racing so I did not spend the extra money on it. My front pads are .67" thick.

    https://www.wilwood.com/calipers/Cal...no=120-13294-N

Both sets of calipers are Nickle plated because they will withstand the heat better and not discolor like powder coating. You can save some money and go with anodized as well.

The other caliper upgrade I didn't do was the Thermlock stainless pistons. They are supposed to keep heat transfer into the fluid from happening. The calipers I bought do have stainless steel pistons though, which should help because the heat properties of stainless.

Let me know if you have any more questions.!

Looking good Paul! On the connector, can you take your stock sensor out and use in in the larger differential? I don't remember what I did, but I'm guessing what I just asked or cut the wires off and spliced them. What wheels are those?

Ill mess with the speed sensor here soon. Thanks for the advice guys!

These wheels are my new temporary wheels until I do something to put wider tires under this car...the e46 M3 grafted fenders like you were talking about or some widebody. Not sure what to do. I am not in love with any particular widening method at this point. I used to like the Esquiss kit, but it doesn't fit very wide tires.

    The wheels are Apex SM-10 18x8.5 et35.

Got a little more time on the car. I need to get the car on a lift to finish the transmission install now that the rear end is back on.

Removed the front spindle to nickel plate them, but with a 23 year old car they still looked brand new.

Replaced the front hubs since they were off and installed the Hard Motorsport backing plates for BBK cooling.

    Front big brakes installed:

I'm still not the biggest fan of the wheels. Maybe I'll like them better once it is set on the ground.

I am thinking of jumping on that group buy for the JRZ RS Pro double adjustables. Does anyone have an opinion on those vs the MCS 2 way?

The car is finally under the knife again.

Transmission has been permanently installed......for now......I hope.

Quick Time bell housing went back for a larger starter cup/cover. When they fixed it they powder coated it and made it look nice and new.

Clutch installed and I checked the runout on the red aluminum pressure plate. It was .0004" so all good there. Well in spec.

Tilton throwout bearing installed. Still need to figure out how to plumb it. Anyone know how to convert from the BMW flare to the Tilton style flare? I was thinking of getting this to adjust pedal position??? Maybe Perry can chime in.

    https://www.summitracing.com/parts/r...BoCj-EQAvD_BwE

Driveshaft is complete. It is 38" long 3" DOM plus the 1350 yokes. I used a nice Sonnax transmission yoke. And my custom yoke. The driveline shop says it will be good for 1500hp easy. They have done several drag cars with this tubing. I'll trust them. A chromoly driveshaft would have been double the price.

The driveshaft is very close to the drivers side e-brake line. Not touching but close. To give a little more clearance I removed the rear washer I put on the subframe and left the front one since the large diff conversion kind of points the diff up towards the gas tank. This seems like it will fix any touching. Also this makes the diff more level in the car.

I didn't know about the reverse lockout solenoid on the T56 Magnum transmission so I ordered this control module and all of the wiring to go with it. This looks at the speed sensor in the transmission and activates the lockout solenoid under 5mph. That should be here next week.

    https://shiftsst.com/tremec-6-speed-...ol-module.html

I am still figuring out the e46 control arms in the rear of the e36. Looks like I just need longer swaybar endlinks and it should be good.

My really big rear brakes are showing a small issue with the length of the rear lines. I may order custom length brake lines later.

I like the new Apex wheels. They look nicer once the car is on the ground. Car is super dirty though...

To date, I have not received a single reply to my emails to them.

Nice product, horrible customer service. (I even provided the measurements for how to fix it!)

For the hydraulics you need to get an adapter to screw into the master cylinder to adapt to a -03 an line. I believe you need a male 10mm bubble flare to male -03 an. Then just figure out the length and order a premade -03 braided brake hose from all star. The end that goes to the master will need a 90 degree end.

You will also need a remote bleed kit or you will never reach the fitting. It’s just a bleed fitting that you put on the end of a 12” or so brake hose. Summit has them for a few bucks.

    $3000 for the transmission
    $800 for the clutch
    $850 for the bell housing
$400 for the adjustable throwout bearing
    $500 for the driveshaft
    $400 for the flywheel
$200 for odds and ends, wiring, module, fluid....

I think the clutch is rated for 1010flt-lbs

They have been good to me. I was one of the first to buy the product. I have several emails to them and they called me when I reported what you found. You have already fixed yours so I am not sure what you would want them to do at this point. I have had an opposite experience. So far they have had great customer service. Answering phones on the weekend. Sending me extra parts. Fixing the bell for me a year after I purchased it. I am sorry you have had a bad experience. Maybe try giving them a call.

Can you help me out with some Summit links to what I may need?

The Tilton throwout bearing has two lines coming off of it out of the transmission. Not sure if I need a remote bleeder??

Can I just adapt from the hard line in the transmission tunnel to the Tilton? Is there a point to redo all the plumbing all the way back to the master cylinder?

I could upload more pictures if that would help.

    Thanks!
