Hello
My grandfather has a 2006 530i that recently started having some issues. I did a search but was unable to find a similar problem. When Accelerating, the engine suddenly drops about 500 rpms or so and then jumps back up again repeatedly. The car will jerk forward violently each time this happens . It feels almost like someone rear ended the car. It only does this under moderate to hard acceleration. If I just barely step on the throttle, the car will speed up slowly without the issue happening. After about 5 minutes or so of driving, the symptoms clear up and the car will start driving normally. Any ideas what may be causing this? I don't want to just start throwing parts at it.
Thanks for the help
More info needed. Mileage on car, auto or standard, any repairs to car prior to problem happened? Have you used a code reader to check for error codes. Generic codes can be pulled by going to Auto Zone or Advanced Auto or one of the other car box stores for free. BMW's are pretty sophisticated and using a code reader, that is designed to pull BMW specific codes, will all but tell you what is wrong... The e60 has somewhere between 30 and 67 computer modules, depending with options fitted, controlling the functions of the car.
Possibly a throttle adaptations reset might help?
