F30 Failing to measure oil level

For some reason I have not been able to measure the oil level lately. It was working fine until a couple of days ago when I got a message that I need to change the oil. My car has done 48k kms so far and I changed the oil around 4 months ago and I have not made 10k kms yet, so I'm sure the oil level is fine.

I have attached a picture of the error it gives me when trying to measure the oil level using the service menu in the iDrive.

I feel like it is a sensor-related issue, to be honest, rather than a deficiency in oil. I'm not up for service for another 3k or 4k kms so I am not sure what I should do at this point.
