Test Pipes or Full Straight Pipe

I am trying to decide on the best option for an exhaust modification. The decision I am trying to make is between a full straight pipe system or test pipes. Could a few people that HAVE or HAVE HAD these mods please chime in on your results. Both pros and cons. Thanks in advance. One more factor I should add is that it is going to be on a 09 E92 M3.

I recently took the straight pipes off of my 2012 m3 because it was way too loud. Every morning I went to start it I would wake up the whole neighborhood, needless to say my neighbors didn't like my car. But if you are set on doing it, I thought it sounded very mean and really liked it for awhile, but like I said, it's a little loud for my liking.

Straight pipes stink pretty bad too, IMO.

I would run an x pipe with 4 resonators like the borla. Some have only 2, and those are OK with a stock rear exhaust. An x pipe with no resonators and no cats is for young men whose exhaust is their mating call.

Thanks I appreciate the reply. Haha I'm 30 with a wife and a 20 month old daughter. Not looking for a "mating call". I'm also a helicopter pilot so drone and noise is fine with me.

What exhaust are you running? Some really boom with a straight pipe.

Straight pipe aftermarket exhaust is often way too loud unless you are in your early 20s and so are all your neighbors and passengers.

It's really not bad at all with stock muffler. Just added the MS Underdrive Pulleys and Intake. Just waiting on the tune and whatever else I decide.

I think I have the best bolt on mods covered unless there is something I'm missing?

They do smell like exhaust. It's only bad in the garage though.

The emissions equipment and resonators don't add much weight, don't reduce power, and are there for a purpose.

If you want a race car, go for it.

There are various options, like high flow cats, resonators, test pipes. If the OP was happy with stock he probably would not be asking about mods, but I certainly understand most people like the car as BMW made it. They did, after all, make it compromised towards the largest share of their targeted buyers.
