So I have called folks until I am blue in the face and can't locate these slides. I found the correct part #'s but no one seems to be able to get them.
54 12 8 105 573 and 574
I really can't believe that BMW would discontinue these. It's very frustrating that this restoration is being held up by two stupid brackets
Any ideas?
I scrapped on recently, now I wish I had taken the time to pull all the sunroof parts...
Maybe one of these actually has them?

What do these evil things look like? Anything that can be 3D printed (if even strong enough) or CNC machined? I have a full spare cassette, but I dont want to part with is for this very reason - someday I may need its parts.

I put up a build thread on my car(Fresh out of paint) that has the photos of the parts in question. It is my one huge dilemna right now that is keeping me from moving forward. I have two e32 parts cars but there was a mid model change in the sunroof and I'm not too sure that even one of my parts cars has the same sunroof. And even if it is the same, they're probably broken too. UGH....very frustrating but I will be pulling things apart to find out today.
S1---I tried both of those and everyone says NLA.
I hate sites that do this - falls under false advertising in my book...

Try here. Part number 12. $26.42 I've ordered from them before. Great service. If they can't get the part, you'll know quickly.

Thanks for this....
On the off chance that their database of parts is correct,I ordered the parts I need. I have a feeling though that they will be contacting me to say they don't have them. Funny how they call not having a phone number a "streamlined" customer experience. Indicative of what most companies these days call "enhanced" customer service....i.e. computer checkouts at the stores and what not.
Incai- any used assembly is going to have the problems I already have, split and broken plastic. Thanks though....
You're welcome. When I put the part number in at BavAuto after inputting your exact car, the part came up as available but it was a few dollars more than GetBMW, so I posted their link for you. If you want to talk to a human instead of email, BavAuto has good phone service. Easy number. 800 535-2002. Press 5. Good luck.

Already called BAV auto......NLA...thanks though
In addition to putting in the order as previously mentioned I also sent an inquiry to the BMW.de classic parts people to see what they come up with. We'll see.

As I suspected...order cancelled. NLA from these guys. I'm quickly running out of options here. There is no way to patch together a set of old ones, and they are all cracked( and if they haven't, they will) and I can't get them new. What's a seven loving brother to do? I really need some e32 gods to smile on me. This can't be what holds up my ability to finish this.....no...not like this....
Hmmm - custom aluminum milled pieces? Would be very expensive I would expect...
Not sure if 3D printing would get you the needed quality.

I have a thought but I'm almost afraid to type it. Just thinking out loud here, you could find a way to end up with the only E32 7 Series with no sunroof. If you really want the car and it's the only thing keeping you from completion, hand it off to a body shop. They could eliminate it. That would also mean lots of work on replacing the headliner and a new headliner board with no sunroof opening. Sounds like a job for Chip Foose on "Overhauling" I watch way too much TV.

Gracious...already was thinking about that but that's a scorched earth policy. What's the point of a seven without a sunroof? I've also already thought of making them but yes, the investment would be crippling. I'm stuck. My only hope is that BMW classic decides to make more. If I have to start writing letters I will. We'll see what they say when they reply to my inquiry today.
My 11/88 750iL also does not have a sunroof. I have seen many here in Japan. I assume in hot climate countries no sunroof is much more popular than in milder climate countries, because it is too hot to open the sunroof. Aircon must always run.
Also a cabriolet would be a no go for me here, too hot in stop and go traffic. Best in hot climate countries is a closed vehicle with AC.
Contact Whiteghost1, he just got another 750 which he is parting, probably he has the parts.
Shogun tricks and tips for the E32 series are HERE!
Eliminating the sunroof is not an option. I will JB weld the ones I have back together and make it work, or at least reassemble, if I have to.
What I am hoping I can do though is appeal to the "heritage" factor that BMW seems to be so proud of. If I can get the right person, with a little sense, in the organization to see that they are shooting the value of their past products in the foot, maybe they'll come around. Sigh, but I doubt it. Just another example of big businesses behaving like big businesses do.
Just thought of an upside to your situation.. You'll never be one of those E32 owners complaining about the infamous sunroof drain leaks. Puddles of water on the floor, both front and back because nobody has been able to blow those four drains clear. I had that trouble with my E23 years ago and have heard a few of those complaints here.

Anyone know of anyone relatively high up in the BMW parts world that could change the situation on these parts? At this point the ONLY option I am forced to use is to glue together(as best I can) these things and reassemble the sunroof and not use it. It makes no sense to me that there is no viable way to move this forward.
Was also thinking about trying the group buy method. Maybe they'll change their tone if enough people (bombard) email them with requests to make them.
I'm waiting to hear back from the BMW classics folks. I'm starting to bark up the tree to see how far I can get.
On your other thread ............... BACK FROM PAINT you said that Bav Auto Recycling offered you the entire assembly for three hundred fifty dollars. You only assume that what they send you will be broken because you've seen a few break. I would invest the 350, and take your chances. If what they send you breaks, they'll send you another free of charge and they'll pay the shipping no matter how many times they have to until you get working parts. Just as they did with my manifold (three times). I would invest in that and put an end to your search. I don't think you or anybody on this or any board will be able to have BMW change what they call an "Ended" part to "Un-Ended". They do what they do and we always have to work around them. I'd still ask Travis at Bav Recycling for a better price....you never know. And tell him your breakage concerns so he can relay them to the guy that removes the parts for you. I think that may be your only choice, and for these cars .... three hundred and change to complete a project is just not that much $$$$$
Jeff
P.S. Just so you know. When I first decided to purchase an intake manifold from them, I saw it on Ebay for $55.00 When I called, they gave me a quote of $90.00. When I spoke to the manager, he told me that was what they call a lead....but he matched the price of the one he had on Ebay and sold it to me for the $55.00. So there is wiggle room.

Thank you SHOGUN for posting this in my other thread looking for overseas help. Once again you prove yourself to be the end all be all end game for information and help. This was the clue I needed and after much patience and waiting I was only able to find one of the two part numbers needed in new form. The other one I cannot find anywhere. The one ending in 823 I could get from ECS tuning and it turned out to be correct....bbuuuutttt even right out of the bag it had hairline cracks in it. The other one (54-12-8-169-824) I cannot find so I have to epoxy one of the old ones together as best I can.
The sunroof will hopefully be together again in a few days. Thanks to you all for your help and input.

Have removed some sunroofs from E32, either from parts cars or repaired it, so far no problem. For example DavidC has a DIY http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/288400

So I put it all together and as I am trying to adjust the panel to fit in the roof correctly...SNAP! the right side rail that I had epoxied together broke. SIGH, anyone have any suggestions on where to get a new right side one?(54-12-8-169-824) I have tried numerous parts houses but they all come back a few days later with a cancelled order saying it's NLA. Is there anyone in Europe who might be able to see if they can get one there? My bald, untanned, head would thank you in buckets!
2 month ago someone was looking in the German forum for this as his part was also broken, and someone had it available used + sold it, here the red circled part

already tried Pelican? http://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info2/54128169824.htm

probably their software is not up to date, but at least you can try.
Checked also some German BMW dealer online shops, but all say: Nicht mehr lieferbar = no longer available.

The first link is in German and I can't read it. I tried Pelican, they say NLA.
I ordered it from the third link but I fear the usual result will be the case....NLA notice with a refund. I hate these part houses that don't have phone numbers. What the hell happened to customer service anymore?
Interesting segment of Jay Leno's Garage where they are using metal deposition to create a mold for a casting. Of course, Jay can afford it, but if a bunch can be made it might be a work around..

So it's been over a year now that I've been driving my E32 without a sunroof because of one broken pass side rail (part # 54-12-8-169-824). I finally took it back apart last night to find that the rail in question is in fact completely broken in two and I will not be able to put it back together, like, AT ALL, without a new one.
If there's ANYONE out there that can help me locate one of these, or even assist in getting BMW to see the light in making more of these, please help. The 7 is now down for the count and cannot get back up without this one stupid piece. UGH, someone please help....Thanks
