New to the island and new to BMW

I'm not new to cars just new to the platform and the area.
I was wondering if I can start here by getting tips and advice from those of you who are more experienced in this car/area.

I don't know if I made the right choice in platform but so far I'm happy.
I plan on starting a build but being new to these cars I don't know where to start if you all can lead me in the right direction I would really appreciate that.

Welcome to the island! Unfortunately, the Hawaii forum is rather dead. However, some check in once in a while, and many of them are very knowledgeable. Check the parts and services compendium thread. Or on social media, search for Team BMW Hawaii. They are more active, as us old farts are more complacent and/or have moved on.

Thank you for the advice. I will be taking a look at them.
From the minor browsing I did, I found that its not that active either. I'll start my journey by going to the local car part stores and getting some more information.
Either way I'll start with the general forum to see what helpful insight I can get there.

What kind of stuff do you want to do? For the most part, local parts houses cannot beat mainland prices, even with shipping factored in. Oil? Get the 5qt Mobil1 jug from Walmart.

I see you are in Kaneohe Bay. MCBH? If so, one of the shops tries to help out Marines.

I have yet to explore due to work. And half the time the shops I want to go to close by the time I get off.
This weekend I'm going to the hobby shop to see what tools I have to work with. And I want to improve its performance and drivability.

I'm going to have to browse around here and get an idea of what road I want to take.

Don't forget the three amigos on The Grand Tour! I have friends that have bought tires with Prime, and that saved them a ton on shipping.

Wow! Since when? They take forever to ship parts but they have always shipped for me. If your going mostly for mechanics Turner and ECS got most my business over the last couple years.

In 2016, Prime shipped me two sets of Michelin's, priced less than TR and zero shipping. Hundreds in savings.
