I went by BMP Design yesterday and had a long talk with Al Hafner the owner. I was inquiring about several things for JL's Mini and his 740 SC.
JL has had a problem with the inlet pipe from the SC to the TB popping off on occasion. Several others have had similar problems. Al said they had started knurling both surfaces to prevent this but then the next surface - the pipe itself still pops off from the couplings and you can't knurl that so it's back to contact cement as a solution. Make sure all surfaces are VERY clean before applying the cement to the couplings or use new ones - even better. JL is also having a problem with his car running lean on the top end even with 42 lb injectors - 36 lb were recommended as ideal for the 740 4.4L...

Now to the MINI - he has an '08 S coupe was looking to get some more hp! AL said they no longer recommend the Super Sprint or Sound Speed systems as they have gotten too expensive - approaching 20% the cost of the cars. I guess that would be on the '08 model. He has modified a customers car that he uses for autocrossing to just over 300 hp, for a Mini not bad. He recommends what he called a buddy tune that he said will gain about 60 hp with that alone - more if you add exhaust set up as well. He likes the full systems that use a high performance cat and larger pipe on back...

Of course he is now emphasizing "AL Hafner Tuning" a section of BMP Design he started about 3 years ago. He said that he is pushing that part of their business over the catalog sales.

Damn, love the exhaust note. Might be onto something there.. however, I know in the amg world, c63 mufflers are the most preferred so maybe I should get crazy and try those. Definitely considering m6 too though.

    Hy Roger ,
As say before, your cat back mod with M63 Muffler is ...Wonderfull !!
( tone, deeping, level sound... perfect ... Better that MY mods including E39 M5 Muffler..;-)
( I like so much , that i listen your vids...several times per day...)

    Congtrats

My sister got a Mini Cooper S ( R 56) , and she try " Miltek complete cat back...
the result was , a very lound sound, with some resonating and drone, with a litle craspy note , when She let he gas pédal off... so, very enthousiast for the short time, but more difficult to accept on the long time

    So,
She let this system off, and chose a Supersprint catback system... result...:

deeper sound, with high pitched note , especially on WOT Time.. no more drone or raspy sound, ...and

    Even , sometimes, Note of a V8 Ferrari ..

She love it, and me , too...!!

You are correct - very close to 2.5 but of course they are in mm... Anything that is meant to slip over 2.5 will also slip over the M6 pipe, just needs a little persuasion. They flex joints for one example slipped over the 2.5 with ease but on the M6 pipe - a little tight but worked.

Good to know. If I go that route I'll need to get the rest of the exhaust done in 2.5 from m5 cats back. Can you remind me where you got your x pipe?

There are probably cheaper ways but I got mine off eBay - it is a Corsa ans very nice SS, it is more than you need as far as length but you can use it to make the total install.... It was $383.00 FYI.... I cut their ends off and replaced with V clamps, better connections..

Darth? on your placement of the X-pipe or "Kiss Pipe" did you mount the location by virtue of the paint stripe discoloration method?

Not that scientific I put it just about where the old center resonator/crossover was located. Within an inch or two... Maybe should have gone further and tried the discoloration method but that would have taken longer.... I was getting anxious as well.

American Iron is hanging out in Finland...lol! (post 1088)

A Memorial Day score, set of 5 OE M pars from a 2000 740il, excellent shape, 2 small rashes on the spare.

Traded my 17" Model 70's with good Michelin Primacy's for the M pars with a mixed set, Michelin front and Goodyear rear (O wanted the 17" Michelins for the wife's Caddy)

A good cleanup and a bolt up in progress... the rubber won't be on long, considering Conti ExtremeContacts for the next round.
