Among many recent items, I replaced my cancer mirrors with Euro convex heated and dimming mirrors! I went with white instead of blue because they apparently stand up to time better. It took forever to discover the tab you must slide with a flat head to release the mirror. Other than that, it took one minute.

Got this car from it's original owner with 78K miles a few weeks ago. Just in the year 2017, I had a 1998 Dinan 7 (I miss the pre VANOS feel) with 46K miles and a '01 with 39K miles. I can honestly say that this one is the cleanest E38 I have ever owned or seen. Has dealer only service records exceeding $15K in fixes and maintenance.

    So far I did:

    - Oil + filter change with the German Castrol and then another oil change at 1,000 miles to give it a good flush.
    - NGK copper spark plugs (always feel better than the factory platinums and easy enough to do once a year, so why not?)
    - Replaced the worn trunk shocks with Stabilus shocks.
    - Cleaned and conditioned the seats with the Leatherique Rejuvenator Oil and Pristine Clean.
    - Shampoo the carpet and install all weather mats (the OE rubber mats made for the E66 750Li).
    - Replaced the dried radiator hoses before they give out on me (ask me how I know ), then flushed the entire cooling system with distilled water twice and filled with Fuchs Fricofin.
    - Flushed the power steering fluid with the Castrol Dexron VI.
    - Replaced the cabin filters, the intake filter and the fuel filter.

Since I am pretty much done with the maintenance, I will slowly modify the cosmetics of the car. So far I installed the pre-facelift Euro tail lights, the three spoke M steering wheel and got rid of the ugly 17" wheels it came with for a set of E39 spec 17" style 5s and a new set of Michelin Defender tires. Don't bash on my wheel/tire choice as I do a minimum of 80 mile work trip everyday. Had to be stylish without giving up the comfort and durability

Next will be debadging the 740iL, installing a lip spoiler and getting rid of all of the chrome trims and going full shadowline.

Thanks bro. Gave to a friend who just bought a 2000 and wanted get rid of the ambers. Somehow each tail light had 3-4 dead spiders in it.

Btw with today’s nasty weather down here, I noticed quite a bit of moisture and fogging in my Euro tail lights. Any ideas on what to do?

I wouldnt use Castrol as engine oil. Way too much burned oil marks, inside the engine. Saw so many beemers, at our garage, when doing oil change, and customer wants "Castrol only" and the engine is black as night inside.

I use now Liqui Moly, it is expensive, but it is really good oil.

I’m on my 6th E38 and I never had to open up my engines in any of them. Not once. My first one had 320k miles when the transmission gave out but the motor was smooth as it gets and did not burn a single drop of oil. Always used Castrol.

I actually still have the 320k car parked next to my workplace and use it for parts. I will open up the motor soon to replace all the gaskets and paint the valve covers as I may use it in a M62B44 swap E30 project.

As far as my E46 M3, I used the Liqui Moly 10w-60 oil with the advice of my friend who tracks his M3 at the Road Atlanta. However I had to switch back to Castrol TWS 10w-60 due to higher oil temperatures under normal driving conditions with the Liqui Moly. Not to mention he spun a rod bearing earlier this year but it would be unfair to blame just the oil.

The black buildup is most likely due to long oil change intervals. Castrol is a great oil, especially the one made in Germany and it’s easy/cheap enough to get at your local Walmart.

    Guys,
My Euro tail lights gets moisture/foggy inside after cold mornings. When it rained for a few days they were full of water. I drained the water, dried all the bulbs and the connectors and let the tail lights sit next to a steamer at my work for the last a few days. Now that they are completely dry; how, where and with what should I seal them with? I don't even know where to seal. The little water that was inside did not leak out from any section of the tail light regardless of how I held it.

Replaced the bowden cable for the hood. My hood hasnt open for a few weeks and I was about to pop the grill to get it open manually. I tried one more time and it popped open. The old cable was loose and had a bend in it in one of the plastic areas that was causing it to not release both latches. Nice new cable works like a charm.

Finally got to fill the washer fluid that was low after I replaced the washer pump that broke. Topped off the coolant too, I have a super slow leak somewhere which is the next thing I need to hunt down.

Picked up a set of Bilstein B4's too which will go on with the the entire suspension refresh kit, more on that later.

Took my e38 to CaseyBMW yesterday to get my new DME synced to my EWS and they said my EWS or DME wasn't communicating with the car so they have to take out some box (I forgot the name) to do a diagnosis which is a 3hour job $458 plus the $135 for the DME EWS sync. Don't have a problem with the money because BavarianAuto had my car a little less than a year, charged me $2700 with nothing done to the car so I hope CaseyBMW get my baby on the road. 1995 740i build date 11/94

Just picked up my 01' 740i sport and I love it so far. Replaced both passenger window regulators, did an oil change, replaced mismatched amber tail light with a clear corner unit, did tax tag and title, washed and clay barred. Ordered new trunk shocks, new p/s reservoir o-ring, oil cap and a gas cap. Asked for another set of jack stands for Christmas so I can do a trans flush in the new year. Need to order a replacement key after I get the title back and I think I'll pick up a GROM bluetooth soon as well (if I can win my fantasy league).

Oh yeah, found a trans with the high stall torque converter and picked it up for a song.

Good luck mate is all I can say to you, had mine off a couple of times already, as advised bought "silicone grease", left the hair drier on it for an hour, installed it back on....next morning it was the same. Will buy another second hand one, photos of my result attached. Use the silicone where the plastic lens meets the casing
