Sorry for OT, but looking at all the ads here - is the black anthrazit headliner something that was not standard for M-Sport cars in the US?
In EU all the BMW's, starting from somewhere around E34 all the way up to the newest Beemers - if it has the M Sport package (called M-Tech here), it always has a black headliner as well.
This is usually the easiest way to tell original M Sport cars from the others, since the headliner is the hardest thing to retrofit (and often not easy to find either) and people usually don't bother, but still advertise their cars as "M-Tech".

Your current situation is not your final destination
Folks, just putting this out there - if anyone comes across a 750 driver's front door card in good condition (which has leather on all the surfaces, including the grab handle) let me know. Mine is ok but showing wear around the door handle specifically. Looking for all black. Condition of the wood doesn't matter, just good leather.

This one with similar miles, but no go-faster sports-pack parts is looking more reasonable at $14.5k (ask):

$16,250. impressive

Sorry that car has several dings and doesn't even have power mirrors which were part of the Comfort convenience package so it probably doesn't have the rear shade either - don't think it was a $17K car. Or Darth is worth $20K with no dings, the C&C package along with several others - Zion package, custom cup holder, 5 Near perfect MPars and M6 wheels. I would find and paint a stock rear bumper for that price.......

Why are e38s drawing so much money on BaT? I seen 100k miles car bring $10k.

Spaceships & Woodgrain.
yeah, this one did quite well for 134k http://bringatrailer.com/listing/2001-bmw-740il-2/
It did have a lot of recent, expensive maintenance though incl chain guides.
Good, cheap E38s simply aren't plentiful. It doesn't hurt that there are very few negative comments in a BaT E38 auction.
Today's $17k car had 5 bidders over $14k and 3 over $15k.
The sale price is close to fair market value.
In the most recent auction
I don't get the haterade when good E38s bring good money. As owners we should be happy that the market recognizes what excellent and undervalued cars they are.
Incredible deals like RVA34's aside, I haven't seen any of these "cheap" (i.e. thousands less than ones comparable in condition and provable maintenance to those that have been sold on BaT in the past year) E38s.
When I was shopping for mine 1.5 years ago I certainly didn't see any.
Although the $5k I paid for my clean '01 sport with 127k miles, original guides, and in need of ~$1k in maintenance felt like a good deal.
Where (in the USA) are the cheap, excellent E38s?
