Ok so I have ordered some m12x1.5x50mm arp bolts, I know the oems are 60mm but we will see if these work. I am currently using a 50mm grade8. I ordered new reinforced rear strut mounts from Powerflex to solve the thump in the trunk. I ordered a Mishimoto electric fan conversion, so I now have everything to replace the entire cooling system except radiator and hoses which seem to be in good condition. That will be this weekend's project. Next will be the clutch cause it's doing a bit of slip and chatter, I will replace the guibo and shaft centerbearing when I do the clutch. Also on the list, more suspension.

I'm going to replace these with 60mm arp bolts. 3/8" is too much thread to be missing. I ordered them from summit racing and they did not have 60mm. Arp does make these in a 60mm length though.

    Update.
The rear strut mounts will be here tomorrow. I changed the oil and differential fluid and drained then transmission. Then I proceeded to round off the fill plug. I was able to get it out with an extractor but now I need a new fill plug.
I got my mishimoto radiator fan and it was broken due to poor packaging. I sent mishimoto and four page drawing on how to correctly package the fan, I am working as a packaging engineer at the moment... Not amused.
I have arranged to pick up an unfinished swap car for $200 (nice) its a 94 325is coupe with a low mile 328 motor. So the story goes like this, guy gets the car puts the swap in moves the manifold and valve cover to the 2.8L and cant get it to start.
Apparently he tossed the old motor and never swapped the crank position sensor or trigger wheel and I believe I will need a chip to properly run the thing. So yea, that's what I am picking up... A half finished swap. I think what I would like to do is get the motor running in the donor car and then swap it over. This will allow me to look the motor over and see how it it running before pulling it. I will probably go for some ARP studs, Cometic gasket and M3 Cams assuming its in good working order. The motor has been sitting for four years so I don't know what its gonna do.

Got a new fill plug. I used redline mt-90 and it seems to be working out so far. Replaced the strut mounts with the Powerflex kit. No more clunk from the trunk. The car handles considerably better when the suspension is working properly.
Is the rear lower controll arm suposed to contact the rear sway bar link?

Did more work on the car today. I replaced the radiator hoses, water pump, thermostat, thermostat housing, tensioner, belt, and converted from a mechanical fan over to an electric fan. Tomorrow I need to wire the fan up and install the braided steel brake lines and test drive it. It will get vetted on the way to work Monday morning.

Also fixed the heat shield about a week back. Forgot to mention I removed the condenser as well. A multitude of little improvements will make a huge difference in these cars. Was contemplating buying my rims tires and suspension this week but bills, kids, ect.
I am going to have to save a bit for that but if I get a few more bonus checks from the boss I will be picking those up sooner than later. Considering going with a square set of 17x9 TRM C4's and doing a bit of fender work. I am planing on using koni reds and a modest 1.25" drop on some eibach springs.
Exchanged the arp bolts for 60mm, if you want to end strut problem woes 774-1007 http://arp-bolts.com/kits/ARPkit-det...?RecordID=3640

Stoptech stainles steel brake lines are in, fan is wired up and working. The motor just does not have enough power for me and the suspension is still slacking.

So the plan is to pick up the testbed car this weekend. I was going to pick it up last weekend but its not rolling yet.
    Its a 94 325 with a 328 motor.
    Here are my plans.

    M3 cams
    3.5" Maf
    Pink top Injectos
    M50 Manifold
    Custom intake
    Headers and full exhaust
Miller war chip to run/tune the damned thing

Its basically going to be a Frankenstein motor.
accessories and sensors will be swapped over from my 2.5l when it goes in the car, these are all brand new and I don't see a reason to buy them twice.
I am going to have to source some working used parts for cheap, like a crank trigger wheel for instance. These will be used for basic diagnostics in the donor car before swapping.
I may open the motor. I want to do a compression test and measure the stroke first to see where we are at.
Assuming it is what the seller claims and compression is good (new fluids of course) I will proceed to source and install the m3 cams.
Budget is a concern, but I also want to squeeze as much power as is reasonable from a 2.8L I would like to see at least 220+hp 195+tq at the wheels.
I think that's reasonable for this setup.

I have a magnaflow mid pipe and raceland shorties. Going to ditch the Raceland and run the obd2 328 headers for now. I plan on fabricating the rest of the cat back with a magnaflow muffler and hand made and welded tigulated exhaust tip. Thanks for the offer though.

These should work for the struts. Where else can I use a m12x1.5x60mm bolt on an e36? I have three left. If I can't find another use for them I will just sell a pair for $20 (cost $48 for 5) to someone else who wishes to secure thier rear struts.

Haha, that stuff looks badass! Subframe torn? Fiberfix it...
You know... I was looking at that pic, is that break fluid on my rims?! Fuck, now I got something else to look into.
Since I cleaned the motor (More like wiped away a gasket) I have been having oil leaks (Don't know where its coming from, started after I cleaned it) The PS unit seems to be leaking, at least from the lines. The transmission is leaking from the master cylinder, I can see fluid on the clutch line. I got a bunch of leaks, making soup.

Ok so I just went to look at the donor car. I am absolutely positive it is an m52b28 in the car (old obd2 valve cover in the trunk and obd2 headers on the motor) I am going to pick it up tomorrow and drag it home. I am going to need some help with this and I will post a video when I get it home tomorrow.

$275 delivered for this lump. Paid $200 for the parts car and $75 for the tow.
I spent the morning getting drenched while I assembled the suspension and put wheels on it so it would roll. I am already finding little presents to pick off (vulture culture) and I am taking in the scope of this project. It has the partially converted m52b28. I appear to have the obd2 computer, I will need a red label obd1 dme with chip. I want to convert the oil filter housing. I am thinking about a whole gasket set. Probably a new set of accessories. Pump, pully, tensioner, alternator looks shot, new fan. Lots of work to get this going. I pressed the clutch in and the pedal got the floor and stayed there.......

Next part (When its not raining) Is to get the car positioned correctly and on jacks.
Many panels will get removed and stripped to be painted matte red (The clear on the hellrott is coming off so I am going matte)
Looking to go a little darker and not glossy. Doors, fenders, fascia will all be salvaged. Might take the tinted windows too, actually I am going to take anything I find useful.
Going to remove all the panels off the front end so it will be easier to work on the motor.
I will post a video and tally everything up. Still waiting to see if this kid kicks down the extra parts he had.

You in the yay area? Wasn't raining today, except for up there, all over norcal.. You are getting the worst (or best) of it, water-wise. Good luck on the build, that is a lot of work.

Yea, I am in the East Bay. Yesterday was brutal, guy I bought the car from could not believe I got it out of his side yard in that monsoon. Thanks for the well wishes, it's going to be a challenge and I could use all the help I can get. Richard81 where you at?
First thing is to get the skin off, them I need to source a red label dme and cams. I am considering two tablespoons of trans fluid in each cylinder and let it sit 48hrs before trying to turn it over for compression check. Sat four years open like that, and I would rather avoid surprises.

ebay, thought so. just left the ebay, precisely for those exact weather reasons . as a matter of fact, the sedan i am working on was found in san leandro.

re: your engine, I would think you would just want to skip all of that and disassemble it to properly check to see how much rust was accumulated. but compression is cheaper, any way you look at it.

Thinking about hitting it with a couple shots in each cylinder and then letting it sit for a few days.

Then I will do a compression test and see whats going on with it.

Also I got a new oil cap and replaced it...

If anyone reading this has a red label dme or a set of m3 cams they wish to donate or sell relatively cheap for my budget build, please let me know. I would rather avoid scrounging at a pick and pull to get overcharged after putting in work.

    Good score.
What is the original color - looks gold in that 2nd pic. Samana Beige or Cashmere Beige?

Good luck finding M3 cams for cheap.
If you feel the need for MOAR POWAH I would advise investigating forced induction, better hp/$ return although it is a larger investment.
Eat, drink, and be merry - for tomorrow we drive.
