Getting PA Soft BMW Scanner 1.4.0 to work on Windows 10 64 bit

I've been trying to get this working for a long while now, and I've been needing to reset my oil light for almost as long. I have the BMW Scanner 1.4.0 OBD device along with a pac-man 21 pin adapter for my '99 528i, and I cannot get the drivers installed correctly. Every time I open the program, it shows that the device isn't connected, but the driver are installed. On Device Manager, it still shows the exclamation mark next to the BMW Scanner device as if there is a problem.
I've tried the FTDI drivers and the drivers that came on the disk, and Windows just tells me it cannot install the drivers, whether it's plugged in to the car or not.
I have tried the method I read on another thread here about deactivating driver signature verification, and that made no difference. Does anyone know what I can do to get this working? I'd really like to use this software.

Try the instructions in the 7th post here: http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/sh...n-Win-7-64-bit
Windows 10 should be very similar. I had to desolder some shorted pins in my adapter before it would work.

Yeah, that's what I had done, and it still won't work. I can't figure out why.

I've gotten it to work on Win8.1 64-bit, but never tried on Win10. One of the many reasons I don't use Win10.

I would try old FTDI drivers to get a connection to the FTDI chip. Then read the FTDI chip eeprom with MProg to make sure the new Win10 drivers didn't erase the device ID. The new FTDI drivers tend to do that to certain clone chips. One of the reasons why the white board K+DCAN cables fail so often. Easy to reflash back though.
I have successfully revived non working white board K+DCAN cables using this method.

I'll have to double check all that. I need to see what I can do with it this week.

Desolder? The only thing that happened multiple Times with interfaces (BMW Scanner or k+dcan) is that the shortcut between pin 7&8 was missing. Those Selters have no idea what they are selling and in the "Support" they are pretending to have "engineers" to solve the problems. Nur the only thing they recommend is to try Windows XP, 7 or 8 which always Leads to the Same issue. You Will Not be able to access any module besides DME (maybe also DDE) as Long as Pin 7&8 are Not soldered together.
I know that some newer E Models do Not need (meaning they Must be separated) those pins bridged. But afaik all models which are covered by bmw Scanner 1.4.0 Need this. Any other opinions/experiences?

The Installation guide you refered to worked for me with all x64 machines Running Windows 7 and above except one machine. No idea what the matter was there.

First off sorry about the delay, this stuff just frustrates me so I can't focus on it too long! Anyway...
I've determined that after uninstalling the device, unplugging the adapter, and plugging the adapter back in, the drivers are not installing at all, even though the BMW Scanner software says that they are installed. I think the software is just seeing that the drivers are on my computer, but I cannot install them on the "BMW Scanner V14x" device. Does anyone know what drivers will be able to install on the BMW scanner adapter on Windows 10? Every time I try to install the drivers it just tells me that they won't work on that device.

I purchased a ~$20 BMW scanner 1.4 and ran into driver install issues. Thought that I would pass along what worked for me.

    1. Download the x64 driver for Windows 10 from the following: https://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/D2XX.htm
    2. Follow this foreign-language youtube tutorial to learn how to install the drivers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZLhlfDmmog
    3. Plug in the scanner to my computer and then to my laptop and everything worked great after I staterted the .exe file: BMWScan140.exe

this worked for me to, best step by step instruction so far for installing BMWscanner on a 64bit windows 10. just have to figure out an IKE and EWS error, but according to most that's because pin 7 and 8 is not bridged in these devices

Yup...just wanted to add that this too worked for me. Was having issues getting the driver to work after following several other threads about loading the driver in BMW Scanner 1.4.0 here and on E46Fanatics. PA Soft was showing the device drivers being installed (green square), but wouldn't see the adapter being plugged in (yellow square). If I looked at it in Device Manager, it showed BMW Scanner 1.4.0 as not having a driver. Followed the above mentioned Youtube driver tutorial (that looks to be in Russian maybe?) and it worked like a charm. Mine is now up and running. Thanks!
