    2006 M5 Auto Purchase??

Hi M5 Forum. I own a 2001 E39 M series and am thinking buying a 2006 M5 E60 with an auto for $18,000 Canadian, 137,000kms (86,000 miles). I guess what I am here to ask is if you guys have any input as to if its a stay away from car or what? I have money though i'm not rich, I understand the pay to play thing. It would get driven semi daily but max 30 miles a day with my short commute. It's at a repo lot so I doubt that they will have service records available but I will ask tomorrow when I call. I have been doing a pile of reading and lots of guys are saying the SMG system is problematic? I don't care about mileage, tire wear and brakes etc. I pull wrenches on all of my stuff when possible so services are not an issue. Anyways, just looking for some opinions is all. Thanks in advance!

I think I speak for many people when I say that the E39 M5 is maybe the best car EVER!! From what I remember of my friend's E60 M5, he complained about having to replace coils often and long-term that the V10 gets problematic in general. Best of luck!

Nonetheless, the E39 will always be a favorite of mine; I have great memories in a 530 - let us know if you need any info on the M3, I've attached our tech article section on the E9x, it should help you out with any issues or maintenance. Good luck man!

Not sure if I would buy from a repo lot unless he price was great. Rod bearings, throttle actuators, smg and vanos are the "typical" issues.
