    Seat Repair

A very good day to everyone from South Africa. I'm brand new to this group. I'm just in the process of purchasing my dream car which is the E36 M3 Coupe. I'm just so excited. The question I have is how do I restore/refurbish the drivers seat. It has worn with age and needs to be reupholstered. Do I redye it, or do I just send in the seat for reupholstering? Advice please?

    Thank you.

Any chance you could post a picture or two of the seat. Depending on how bad it is, most likely you can do it yourself.

It depends on the condition, in case just the colour is gone, you can DIY re-color it. I case there are cuts in the leather, you could also DIY, buy a leather repair kit with liquid leather or a piece of leather patch and special leather glue, remove the leather from the seat, glue the small piece from below under the seat leather, smoothen it with liquid leather, dye it. https://axleaddict.com/auto-repair/L...uto-Upholstery

We have no idea what your skill set is, so we cannot say that you can fix it yourself or that you should take it to the shop. Only you can address that kind of question. You might be able to paint the fence around your property, but this does not mean that you can paint the house. You might be able to nail on a few new boards to the fence, but you cannot do a room addition. Or, room additions might be your thing but you simply do not have time to fuss with the fence. Maybe you can reupholster the seats on your car, and maybe you can hit them with some saddle-soap and clean them up. We cannot tell from here.

Seat repair is not as difficult as some think. It's amazing what is possible.
