Some news form my Z3 :
As a member of "BMW Z3 club de France" I was invited to shox my car.

The car was a "suprise" for the other memebers, so we kept the secret...secret until the D day !

As my car is no more for road use, I took my BMW X3 3.0i and pull the Z3 ! We hided it in the garage the first day.
Other members took me in their cars, and we visites some very nice parts of our country !

My car was like this brand new 19 years ago....

Amazing restaurant, and I sware without frogs or snails !

Second day, there were a meeting and it was time to show my uggly unfinished car, but everybody loved it....

We were proud of our club !

    Z8 !

I guess you know that Z3 coupe are very rare only less than 18 000 were produced. I think it's a good idea to keep some extra body parts in case of trouble on trackdays.
One of my friend bought this wreck and sold spare parts (all of them) He gave me the body and the bonnet (hood),

Bingo ! It's a very rare one ! From Hartge Z3 coupe V8, few of them were produced in Germany by Hartge with V8 M5 motor.

This hood is very interesting for me, because it's light (fiberglass), but he most important point is that the hood has a lot of holes. Which is very goog for motor cooling !

    Am I crazy ?

Next winter, I will mount a full kit fiberglass body kit from MC Racing Company.

Thanks for all the great pix, beautiful cars and scenery, I really like the blue of that Z3 roadster. Your parts car is my other favorite, Montreal Blue or Bleu as they say in France.

A long time whitout any news, there two reasons : first I'have not receive the parts (body fiberglass parts, windows in Lexan and accessories) The second reasons is a pulmonary infection which makes me very weak. So we have to wait !

After my pulmonary infection I'm still very low, but I received the fiberglass kit, so I want to show you, 15 parts, with two doors which are coming later and the bonnet, that means 18 parts ! Ther is a lot of job to do, for example the bonnet has "cracking" everywhere. I can't wait for starting to mount it, but I have to be patient !

    Later

Today is very sunny and I feel better, it's time to work on my Z3M ! I made a lot of holes on back wings and trunk (for screws), I used Dremel also for all the things I had to fix for mounting the parts.

    Later

Today I tested my kit with the help of "american duct tape ! THat show me (and you) what it's goeing to look like ! on the right sideTHe back wing extensions will meet the gas filler hole, but it let enough place to fill the tank...

I received doors, finally there are amounts for windows, it is better to guarantee an optimal closure to "high speed" on the other hand I need to recut my windows, and the stiffeners for windows will not be used!: the finish is very well
The weight of a naked door is 2 kilos! (4,4 pounds) When we added, locksv pivotal handles and window we are 5 kilos, reminde that was 26 kilos by OEM door!
There is thick aluminum inserts for hinges, holes have to be drilled are spotted, Hinges are screwed and the organized door!
The same operations for the right, door is going to ask for a light rectification in a corner, for nothing nasty.
Weight gain : 10,5 kilos (23 pounds) of fiberglass doors instead of 52 kilos OEM, 41,5 kilos (114 pounds) are saved only with these doors !! Which gives well the expected 60 kilos 132 pounds) finally 59,73 exactly. See the Excel table .

Yesterday evening I worked on my doors, the oem system is too stif when you open de door outside and it is heavy (1 kilo 2,2 pounds) To prevent cracking on my fiberglass I did this and saved 1 kilo, also 0,5 kilo saved with door stoppers. I like this ! I use the oem gasket as model... Only 0,034 kilo is better than one !

    Save weight...

    Gasket oem as model

    1 kilo saved 2,2 pounds

    Very nice isn't it ?

I did also a home made system to open the door outside :

    Later

Front windows have the good size, we use a special machine to make 82 mm holes, thez are for Pop It Vente from P4P (see my link) You can turn it, close it very easily !

    hole is 82,3 mm

You can find these at P4P :

    http://www.plastics4performance.com/accessories.html

    Later :
Yesterday evening, I took care of rear-view mirrors, it was necessary to recut bases so that they marry the imprint of doors for rear-view mirrors OEM. A little of rectification so that the rear-view mirror is very horizontal once gone up. we see good, it is better in 220 kph at the end of a straight line on hot brakings with a lot of "nasty" guy who want to overtake you !. the kneecap (which will allow the rear-view mirror to move easily) will allow to save my polyester in case of clumsiness, I took advantage of it to prop up the lower hinge of the door passage with holds OEM, it allows me now to have the angle at the top in the back which sticks well, I will just be needed a little sanding on the amount inward for a perfect fitting. The problem being settled(adjusted) before the photo, I feign you the chink by exaggerating It also below the door follows better the back wing

Regulation of the trunk (touchy) it is necessary to move wings to the right or to the left, and again..

I hope that my Z3 will be ready for the next M Fest May the first), I went last year at Magny-Cours Track. It was organised by M Club of France, 2 days wonderfull days, first on school track (very technical one) and the second day on ex Formula one track see this very nice video (thank you Creative Vision for this excellent job).:https://www.facebook.com/CreativeVision1/

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atFeizehE_0

    Video link M FEST 2017/lien vidéo M FEST 2017

I make holes to be able to slide these clips, it is rather long to make. I fixed temporarily with the not definitive screw, I am going to buy attractive and definitive black screws . A very light aluminum room(part, play) on is stuck and screwed with the handle inside, to distribute the strength at the most, to guarantee an optimal rigidity when we pull( the handle strongly to slam the door. 2 hours for a door I shall make the other one later.

The final weight for on door with all gear will be around 9 kilos (20 pounds) Oem one is 26 kilos (58 pounds) I mean with Hinges, lock, handles(handfuls), door panel and window, also these RALLY DOOR FOAM MATERIALS SPECIFIED BY THE FIA, I will put this inside the door, it will work as a "helmet" Of course there is also my lateral roll bar to protect us !

Yes, but it was out of order, in very bad shape, broken everywhere, not for genuine and very nice cars, we saved it like this !

Sanding of all the elements, the surfaces in contact and even farther for a maximal catcher, not the most nice work nor the least long...

    The hood, the big piece!

oday sticking of elements fiber on the fiber with some mixture of fibers and resin polyester of the blow it is the same product no risk of reactions.
For the parts plastic / polyester we take some glue windscreen because the plastic does not adhere to the polyester.
Preparation of the right-hand side, the assemblyof the wing defers, adjustment carries(wears) wing,

These body alterations with that quality stuff are a bit of a letdown. Imho, either do not touch arches and bodylines or make a mold of the original and create highquality carbonfiber duplicates which can use original locks etc... Ofcourse it takes time, effort and some money, but this kind of hacking takes a lot of time and effort too.

Z3 & E36 RamAir systems, send private message for more information.
