Yeah, it's both a good and sad to me.
He's done a lot for the sport (especially dealing with teams/egos and getting deals done) but he's not ventured into the 21st century as much as fans would like.
I also think that certain races would still be held but because he charged so much to hold an F1 race tracks couldn't afford it. Those countries that were keen to add from their own government budgets for fund a race got them. He made hosting an F1 event so very very expensive - so expensive that pretty much only countries could afford it.
Anyways, the poison dwarf is gone, and I hope LM knows what they're doing!
I see a better future for F1 now - Kudos to Bernie for building what the sport is today and taking it into new markets/countries - but its time F1 modernizes itself with the way it interacts with its fans and the whole experience, I really hope LM takes our beloved sport to new heights and hope that Ross Brawn also takes s ome sensible decisions for the road ahead.
LM would ideally like to reduce the cost gap for competing into the sport, and thus level out the field, and thus provide us more wheel to wheel stuff where more teams have a chance of a race win, rather then 1 or 2 teams slogging it out race after race. F1, has always taken knee jerk reactions, the fan base age group is changing now, you have your hardcore fans and those who want something in addition almost like a perk to attend the event (Like how USGP had the concert on the side to attract the new gen) and with so much competition going on in the way media is being distributed and consumed in this day and age, I think LM might just be able to hit the right cord and balance and improve the whole sport in general!

First of all, I'd like to say I'm really excited to see how these new cars work. They sound like they're going to be hugely fast, and with the win-win of allowing closer racing.
That said, I have what will probably sound like a ridiculous idea but one I think has merit. I'm obviously biased, seeing what I do for a living, but I'd posit that a non-aero racing series of a higher caliber than FF1600 would be a huge draw for spectators. In particular, I believe it would help series like V8 Supercars and even F1 (this coming season still being unknown).
I like to occasionally watch old race footage, most of which comes from before the age of developed aerodynamics. What I really noticed about the BTCC race I was watching was the cars were able to run inches apart, the lighter Escort pouncing on the beefier Camaro before the Cheby pulled away on the straights. It was really fun to watch start to finish, and there were similar battles down the field. The cars worked really well if they were chucked, not guided smoothly. Sure, the cars could have been made faster...but they were fun to watch. Those drivers were doing real work, muscling cars with crappy suspension and manual gearboxes around all kinds of tracks. Isn't that the endgame of entertainment? I think modern BTCC is largely still like this, but a number of modern series aren't.
Bringing it back to F1, many of the complaints have centered around the cars not being able to battle and the cars looking...uneventful? to drive. I'd think that cutting downforce would help both of these problems, even if the cars ended up slower. I know F1 won't ever see manual gearboxes again, but maybe a development series could. Would it be worth it to you guys to watch a series like that? Hopefully it becomes moot and this new formula works, but I still think it's an interesting question.
Interested in vintage cars? Ever thought about racing one?

I just want louder cars.
RTR
The fuel flow limit is currently 100kgs/hour. This means that running flat out they will empty their tanks in a hour where a race is normally 2 hours long. Increasing fuel flow won't help unless you seriously increase fuel allowance in total.
They currently use engine mappings to reduce fuel used (lower rev limits etc) and therefore don't run at the currently allowable max revs except in Q3 and for a very small percentage of the race where they need the extra power for an overtake or a quick in/out laps. Last year after Hamilton's engine exploded even Merc was very hesitant to run their engines in 10/10ths mode - using all revs etc.
So what changes do you guys expect to see Chase Carey start with? And how do you think he will change F1 with the American market being a larger target?
These are a few of the things I'd like to see from a Carey point of view:
Streaming races.
Enabling the listening to team radio transmission (select by team)
Enable in car camera views by selecting the driver you wish to view.
Choosing to watch the same footage that the adjudicators are viewing.
F1 to have their own radio station (broadcast live on stream if you choose) with hosts for each race. Hosts like Karun Chandock, DC, Bruno Senna, - IOW ex-drivers with a known pundit as well. This radio station is also able to be received by those track side as well using any smart device (phone, tablet etc). Basically unbiased pundits. Unlike some of the SKy broadcasts which make me cringe when they talk about Hamilton etc. dutch fans with Max etc. Knowledgeable people that won't pander to idiots on twitter.
From a Brawn perspective:
I hope they evaluate the lower rear wings to ensure they aren't hugely responsible for the dirty air behind the car. Thus allowing the car behind to travel closer.
I hope they establish a form of ground effect (which by its nature is not impacted by the car infront) therefore allowing closer racing.
I hope they can more evenly distribute revenue to the teams. Sure allow Ferrari/Merc/RBR to get a little extra but not 1/10th of their budget. Give those guys 20-40 million more for being legendary teams but also even out the revenue to those teams that actually score points.
I'm in two minds with regards the front wings. On one hand it's an area where the teams can play a little to gain advantage. On the other hand they are getting ludicrously complex resulting in massive spending for a .0001 benefit. They also play a huge part in air-flow over the entire car and therefore are badly hampered by driving too close to the car in front.
Regardless, I think Brawn and Carey have said the right things: F1 isn't going to be knee jerk reactionary any more but things do need to change.

IMO the key to everything is getting F1 in front of people: that means above all TV coverage. F1 has declined as it has been locked behind a paywall. When Bernie started changing contracts from free TV channels to subscription services, viewership has plummeted and so has the overall audience, unsurprisingly.
The question is, which one is better for the owners: a massive global audience that doesn't pay to watch but then F1 owners as well as the teams get bigger sponsorship deals and ad money. Or sell the rights (and tickets) for as much as possible and restrict the audience, and therefore the value for sponsors.
BMWs are fun in the snow too...
New nomenclature for 2017 McLaren: MCL32.

To be fair, Bernie raising the price of the FOM feeds caused it to be pushed outside the fiscal boundaries of regular TV into Paid subscription services. Bernie didn't necessarily want it to be enclosed within the paid subscription services model it's just that they were the only ones who wanted to pay for it.
But I agree. The easier it is for normal people to watch the more viewers they will undoubtedly receive. But regardless of scheme the hardcore fans will find a way to watch even though they may not be counted within the viewership. (like myself).
I figure that might be the reason why but it just sounds silly to me.

Man it feels like a really long time waiting for new cars to be revealed and for winter testing.
Rumor mill:
Ron Dennis and a consortium of Chinese businessmen buying Manor and using the MP4- nomenclature for their chassis.
--------
I am very excited to see the new cars with their wider stance, lower rear wings and angled front wings. Still not sure about the design making it easier to follow/overtake though but am hoping it is so.
That would be nice if Manor was on the field. Not because they will compete for podiums this year, but because it's good for the sport to have a diverse field. Hopefully they can become better over the coming seasons too.
Question on the new chassis - I thought the increased aero would make overtaking more difficult because of the washout over the front wing when getting closer to the car in front, and then when the pursuing driver tries to overtake, which in turn makes it hell on tire longevity. Is that not the case based on what you're seeing/reading, RB? Has Pirelli addressed that in their 2017 compounds?
Mercedes will be revealing their new car W08 on Feb 23rd.
