As I'm cruising home on the freeway the other night in my 2003 E39 540i, a loud (what sounded like) straight piped newer style Hemi Challenger R/T flys by me. After doing it a couple times it was obvious to me he was trying to get my attention. I figured why not, the roads empty, I'm up for a friendly race even though I'll probably lose. As I pull up behind him, he punches it and immediately merges onto an empty looping freeway interchange, so I did the same. I knew I could hang with him on that twist, but once we reached a straight-away it would be game over for me. He couldn't shake me on the loop as expected and as we merged back onto the freeway, me behind him, we both punched it again. To my huge surprise I pretty quickly pulled 2-3 car lengths on him, and continued pulling until I let off around 100-110.
My Steptronic 540i is definitely no slouch on the highway, but I would have thought that an R/T packed a little more punch than that? I was almost positive I was going to lose that one. Base model R/T's supposedly have ~ 375hp-400ft/lbs torque @ 4100lbs if I'm not mistaken. My (bone stock) 540i is 291hp-340ft/lbs, albeit most likely slightly underrated, and ~3700lbs. Maybe the extra weight/gearing held him back? Bad driver? Thoughts?
The R/T Challenger is a boat..lol
Though they have a lot of power they are heavy I pull R/T's and I am I light bolt-on E36 m3
Auto R/T's close to stock arent that fast, tuned and a couple bolt-ons they are pretty quick I ran my buddies stock charger and pulled him from a roll and dig, after tune and intake he pulled me pretty good... From a dig I held him for a little bit but he came around me...

Also could have been an older R/T.
2014 5-spd RT's are ~107 mph cars.
2015+ 8-spd are 110+ cars. Some have seen 12's with just DR's.
I can't tell the difference between a 2014 and a 2015 on the fly.
Could very well have been an older Challenger. What I meant by "newer style" was anything 2008-present, eg. not a 1970's Challenger. I haven't really kept up with the recent model year changes/updates, I just always assumed that any Hemi Challenger would be fast.
A 2008 RT is closer to a 100 mph car.
I had a 13 or 14 charger R/T try me once when I still owned my E46. Did two or three pulls from 30 and he was not a happy camper when I got a car on him every time lol.

Nice story , the driver of the challenger must have let off the throttle those cars trap about 105-107 , I doubt a stock challenger is trapping over a 110. I pulled on a second gen rt challenger when my z was stock .
I remember surprising a lot of people on the highway when I had a 540i6. nicely done!
Current: 2015 Audi S4 Sepang Blue, DSG, technik, black optic, sport diff, H&R Sport springs, Chipwerke Pro
Past: 2001 ///M5 Imola Red/black, mk iv nav, black kidney grills, muffler delete with vibrant 1331 tips, shorty clutch stop, evolve alphaN tune
e60 530i, e39 540i6, lots of modded audis.
I look forward to completing the trifecta.....I've already beaten a 2014 Mustang and 2015 Camaro, both V8's. I would love to see how I could do against a RT Charger or Challenger. I love my launch control!
ps...this was NOT street racing......

If you're walking Mustangs and Camaros, you'll wax the floor with the Challenger or Charger RT. My TS2+ ZHP can gently pull from a 2012(?) Challenger SRT-8.
If you want a challenger, go try a 2016+ Camaro. Since they beefed them up, they are entirely different animals now. If I'm not mistaken, they run low 12's in the 1/4 all day long. I think someone actually trapped under 12.0 before on a bone stock car (exception of tires).
A new Camaro SS should beat me. I thought about that while pulling up to a red light on my way home. And then I noticed a Tesla pulling up behind me, along with a Nissan GT-R. Made me wish I could have gotten the recent Dinan upgrade special. Not that I could have beaten either of those cars.
Tesla Model S is no joke. I had a P95D next to me at a light one time and he asked if my car was fast. I said, "Compared to a Civic? Oh yes. Compared to yours? Not even a little bit."
He then showed off his warp speed and I just putted my way up to the speed limited, shifting at 3,000 RPM.
Side note: Actually watching a Tesla take off is just... weird. There is no noise, no tire chirp, nothing. It just... GOES.

Not surprising you pulled on that rt challenger , I beat a srt8 challenger a few years ago with my B8. Told the guy after that i had a 3.2 litre six
Recently had the honor of walking away from an orange charger SRT8. they trap more than 108, thats all I am going to say...........
