WTB Center Dash Vent for a '97 E31

If you have one that is clean with no broken tabs or cracked housing please let me know. Thanks!

I borrowed this picture from one of the threads...

What is the problem with yours? If it's broken tabs I have a really nice fix.

Someone pulled on it and cracked a section of the face off... Its hard to see in this picture but the damage is above the right vent.

Yea, I don't really want to spend $700 for a new vent...

If you can repair it but end up breaking some tabs there is a great fix for the broken tab situation.

I believe I worded this incorrectly. The fix is to hold the vent in the dash without the use of tabs. I'll post a summary later tonight when I get to a computer and maybe a fuller write up if warranted. Did it with my car and it works perfectly.

If it involves drilling and a hidden tiny hole, Lots of us have done it and it is a perfect clean alternative.

Short version is wrap the 2 ducts on the vent with D shaped seals (use the double seal shown in the pic). The seal comes with it's own adhesive backing so there is no muss, no fuss. Simply insert the vent into the dash and viola', the vent is held in place by the friction of the closed cell foam surface and the pressure generated by the deformation of the D shape. There is an added benefit of improved sealing over the OEM foam.

I have one without any broken tabs, cracks, and fully functional. There was a problem with the internal electronics since it got damp one day. I took it all apart for a R&D and curiosity project. Its really not that hard to put back together, or at least taking it apart was easy

I am in Southern CA right now, but will be more than happy to send you some pics when I get back to Northern CA on Monday. PM me.

One magically popped up on eBay last night. Hopefully it arrives in good condition...

So it arrived with both upper tabs missing and a small crack at the peak that was previously repaired but not visible in the listing. Seller said it was in good condition before it shipped. Well, it wasn't. I am keeping it to see if I can make it work. Still better than mine especially since he refunded me 50% of the purchase price...
