If you put cheap parts on your car, you will soon have a cheap parts car.
I do hear you Jim (about the difficulty of throwing away good parts), but it just comes down to how much time goes into getting how much $$ out of them, at what irritation cost. You only live once, gotta do what you gotta do.
On the other topic, I also like the BMW cars quite a bit, I just dislike aspects of their engines even though they obviously have their good points. LS swap really is the answer. It's just so crazy fun. You and I resisted bravely, and are late to the LS party because of it. I intend to make up for lost time. Lol
Gonna add this to my forsale post. Alusil blocks really are a marvel:
M62b44 Block.jpg
The gun drilled cranks in the M62s (and M60s also I think), are also pretty damn cool. BMW put some pretty sweet stuff in these engines for sure.
Alusil ugh.
That stuff is why I only have 9.3:1CR in my pcar engine instead of 10.5.
I could afford used P&Cs, fancy pistons, or having the cylinders bored and lined with nikasil (to allow aluminum Ps...but not fancy Ps AND cylinder remanufacture. So I snagged some used P&Cs for less than either of the other two.

Thad, I hope you don't sell or toss anything so I have a reliable source for parts when I need them! :/

I feel your pain, brother!
BTW, I picked up some free tires (dry rotted drift burners) from a dude the other day who had a water cooled 911 variant. He had blown the factory engine, swapped in an LS1, and blown that too within 400 miles! Lol... Poor bastard! But then he picked up a 6.0 -- LQ4 I suppose -- and that will be his new short block. I have a feeling he's about to have some fun.
I'll make you a good deal Chris! This stuff will be gone one way or another in fairly short order. For you I'd be willing to load up a pallet and ship it. For that matter, I'd drive it out to you if you paid for diesel and bought me a damn beer. Lol
Truethat Jim! I have to build a couple versions of LS engines now and see if I still love them as much as I do now, or maybe more.. I suspect it will be the latter.
I'm planning to put together the gen 4 6.0 stuff, and decide if I want to run it with the 9.5-ish compression with the 317 heads, or 10.4-ish compression on the 706 heads. I suspect the higher compression setup will be better on E85 until I get up to some really high boost levels. I guess at that point I can take an hour or two and slam the lower compression heads on.
Might as well go with the 706 heads, then you don't need to be concerned about loosing boost from the rear mounted turbos. 317 and 706 have cathedral ports, right?
I've got 0821 heads on mine, they're rectangular ports.

I'm doing my part to help Thad clean out his extra parts.

They are. It seems to be a fairly common "upgrade," so I'm guessing the 6.0 piston height is fairly low. I'll check it when I slam the 6.0 short block together.
BTW DokB, it seems that another round of votes for your build are in order now that it's in the finals. True?

word. I've got a lot of engines spinning 'round my head right now. I'm sure it'll be NBD.
And you're correct. The finals are upon us. I'm currently in the lead, but the voting will wrap up on 6/15 so there's lots of time for Jamie or Duane to rally and pass me. (not if i can help it!)

You have a fresh vote from me!
And, I agree with selling those seats, 100%.
I voted again too.
Thad i wish i was able to help you with some of your stuff but that block would be a pricey item to post. A set of cam bearing caps would be a worthwhile item to get as i want to rebuild my spare heads before i go to the tuner.

My need for the cam bearing caps is because I have some that have stripped threads in the oil rail/rocker cover studs.
