There were a few guys pontificating about the OEM clutch in the M5 FB group recently. Guys there are running 600+ hp on fresh OEM clutches with no issues. Not sure on torque, though, as they’re using centrifugal superchargers

That is interesting, since several of us on here have found OEM M5 clutches to be insufficient for our needs. I don't know how to explain it.
Inneresting!! In for updates on the Clutchnet. And as a data point my almost new M5 Clutch could not hold at peak torques. My current UUC twin holds good and is streetable, but its pricey. I'd would have bought the Clutchnet if streetable and can hold.

Looks like they're around 500 ft. lbs, but they're definitely pushing the limit there. Tim Alfaro has an S62- swapped Alpine white wagon w/ a new custom tensioner setup. Saw it in person a while back; one bad car. I love the M-splatter paint on the supercharger pipes.

Not trying to be argumentative or anything, but from what I read there, that guy's clutch is not holding well enough in the sense that I would call really working. I think that is pretty consistent with what has been experienced by members on this forum.
2021 thread update! Lol.. This beast is still running well. And his reports on the Clutchnet clutch have been extremely positive. I'm kind of thinking Clutchnet/California Clutch may not be doing business anymore, so it might be a moot point, but still, it seems to work great.
Nick had to repair the front diff mount on the subframe, but other than that it is still just running like a champ.
Turns out M62s (at least the non-TU ones) are some damn robust engines if the tuning is kept in check. This one and Philly98540s continue to impress me beyond expectations.
I most impressed that he's keeping it running. It seemed to bit over his head when he got it, but your build was so good its been reliable for him. One off awesome build. I bet he's learned a ton by now and can wrench on the car with good results. Those front diff mounts always go but somehow mine is still holding.

Yeah, I've helped him with a few diagnostics over the time, and also with the tune a few times to dial some things in, but overall it's been a great car for him -- And at times his ONLY transportation!
Interestingly, Nick is quite the fan of E39 540s, and has had at least two other ones prior to this one. He told me that this has been by far his most reliable E39. Hilarious to think, but honestly when I built it I removed every bit of BMW-ness about the drivetrain that annoyed me, and just left or added the stuff I like. Seems to have worked. Lol
Regarding the diff mounts, I suspect it's wheel hop that probably takes them out fastest, and my guess is that you are a pretty smooth driver who doesn't cause much of that. Pure speculation on my part obviously.
Wheel hop is a PITA on the V8’s. If I take off at no more that 1500 RPM I don’t have wheel hop issues. Any higher and pure hell.
Years ago my front diff mount was showing signs of the weld cracking. I re-enforced it and it’s been fine since then.
2023 Update:
The hotrod (IRS w/LSD) has 0 wheel hop.

Interesting on the wheel hop as it has never been an issue in my car. I wonder why, but I'm happy I don't have it. I can hammer it hard with a 5k launch (I don't do that often but have like once or twice) and no hop. Just normal 275 michelins in the back. I usually drive smooth and punch it after a roll but sometimes launch it hard.
But I bet your right and the hop is what cracks that front mount. Or harsh donwshifts etc. In go mode, the welds are sort of in compression mostly so putting the power down is likely less of an issue.

Can confirm that my M5 wheel hops violently at higher rev launches, or even if you do a quick-ish launch in rain with DSC off. It's pretty gnarly, so I try to avoid it. Can break gears with that nonsense.

Yo Nick! If you're subscribed to this thread still, it'd be awesome if you updated the current status of the unicorn.
Open diff here on DSW02's, certainly not a drag tire. Koni adjustables front and rear on the "high/lifted" setting, and certainly get some wheel hop if I launch too high. I try to slip the clutch to have that balance of catching but not giving all the power until I'm well under way. Overall I hate going from a stop. Breaks things.
I don’t get wheel hop. Never an issue on my car. Old OE sachs or my new Ground Control, old diff bushings or new ones. Old subframe bushings or new reinforced poly inserts. Must be something that makes it happen on some cars.

I wonder why. I get significant, nasty wheel hop, and have since I got the car in late 2018. It’s only under the perfect amount of revs - excess revs results in wheelspin, and not enough revs results in bogging. It also happens on slippery-but-grippy surfaces - like on wet pavement.
It’s that perfect middle ground when it’s actually a really good launch that really gets things bouncing around. My shift lever will jerk around by about an inch, maybe more.
I’ve changed the engine mounts, trans mounts, all four dampers (from Dinan JRZs to used OE Sachs, which, yes, are a bit tired), wheels, tires, reinforced the subframe bushings, replaced the subframe when the diff mount snapped (I’m sure the wheel hop didn’t help), resealed the diff, and replaced *all* rear control arms and ball joints. Dinan rear sway bar, BeastPower sway bar brackets, stock diff (resealed), solid front diff mount (but wheel hop happened before and after), replaced the rear diff mount… dunno. It’s interesting.

Oh, and replaced the driveshaft and CSB and clutch and rear CV and more I’m probably forgetting

Yeah Nate, it’s an odd one. Solve it and the BMW gurus will make a monument in your honor. I can hard launch in first or do a second or third gear high rev clutch dump at speed and light em up and no issues.

If I launch at anything above 1500 RPM the wheel hop is brutal.
It did the same thing when the car was new.
No wheel hope whatsoever on the hotrod, it also has an IRS setup.
