    Fault in Passenger restraint system

    Hi all,

I've done a bunch of reading on this forum and found a number of threads about this issue, which points to the fact it can be caused by different issues.

I don't yet have an INPA capable connection to my 04 745Li, but will clearly need one.

So I have a quote from my local dealer which shows I need to replace BM65-77-6-970-905 and BM61-31-6-970-833 along with $730 and $225 respectively in labor to do those replacements.

I've found several sources for either new or used parts which are FAR cheaper than the $229 and $590 they want.

So I have a few questions:
    1) Do I really have to replace the Steering Column switch hub unit (the second part above)? The dealership said the codes they read said the first part was bad, but the second would need to be replaced.
    2) Is it entirely possible this is a simple sensor in the seat, or would the dealership have suggested I replace that?

I only want to get this repaired so I can trade or sell it. Seems to have a solid engine and tranny, so I gotta get something for the kids to drive rather than scratching/denting this one.

Had this EXACT issue. It could be the sensor in the seat, or in the belt buckle as well. When it happened on my 135i, it was the seat sensor, then the second time the belt sensor, and after it came back a third time; it was obvious that the module has the issue to start with. If you're planning on trading or selling it, have the sensors replaced. The module, as you were quoted, can get pricey - there are other factors that could cause this issue is as well...BMW electronics
