Here is my build in progress.
It's an 02 325I
It's getting an aluminum block 5.3 with a 76MM turbo and a turbo 400 trans with a trans brake.
I'm putting a mustang stright axle 8.8 in the rear but retaining the BMW wheels. Mini tub with 12" wide rims and 345 wide tires.
I had to fabricate all of the frame supports and brackets as well as control arms. I am making it look stock from the inside so it will still have the back seat in place.
I'll post up pics shortly if where I'm at so far.

The rearend is not the permanent one it's out of my wifes fox. The rear going on this will have different brackets for the Lower control arms.

Axles were shipped out today and hopefully I'll have the two rear wheels in 2 weeks after they get widened. I need to order the tires soon so I can finish up test fitting and get it on the ground.

Here I thought I was dead set on a 8.8 IRS set up..... Now you have me thinking.... Killer work so far, I'll be watching this thread.
The nice part is it looks like the 85-98 mustang 8.8 is the perfect width if you use the factory backspaces wheel. So no need to narrow it.
Strange built the custom axles and it and it came with the wheel studs and c-clip eliminators for 450 shipped
Axles came in today. The wheels fit nicely just need to order some lug nuts. And still waiting on the widened wheels to come in.

Tires came in today
That is a 55 gallon barrel behind them.

I had the rims widened from 7 to 12" they will be here tomorrow.
YEP! You got me thinking enough that I am certain a fox 8.8 will be going into my e46. You'll probably get this on the road before I start my junk, so I'm very curious on how it works out.
Where will you have your fuel tank? A fuel cell in the trunk?

yeah pretty much the entire trunk area is getting cut out so I can build the structure for the coil overs and the panhard bar. I will build an aluminum fuel cell. my plan is to be able to still use the fuel door though.

wheels came in today and I wasted no time getting the tires mounted. they did an awesome job on the wheels. it only needed 1.5 oz of weight.
Wow! You can part time as road paver with those

NICE! how was that on the ol' pocket book?
225 per wheel plus shipping. Overall I have about 1700 into all four wheels and tires. I have nitto 555's for the front that should be here this week.

Mocking up the wheels on the rear so I can get a better idea how they are going to tuck into the wheel wells and how much I need to cut out.
The transmission tunnel has very little wiggle room for the driveshaft. while the Foxbody rear is centered with the housing, the pinion is 1" offset. So I am going to have to put a 1" spacer on the passenger side of the rearend to center everything.
Also with the change of plan on the tire size my control arm brackets are about 2" too far out to clear the tires so I'm gonna have to cut the outer tabs and weld new ones on the inside. Overall I'm not upset that's a pretty minor setback.
The overall width of the rear with tires mounted is narrower then I originally measured out which is good because I should be able to tuck the tires in and drop the back of the car down. Just more tubbing.

Seeing that axle assembled and then under the car = This thing is gonna be nuts.
its coming along. I need to calm down. I just ran the numbers and I am already 12 grand deep into it and I don't have any accessories and still need bumpers and sideskirts, cooling system, fuel system, brakes, driveshaft... this is gonna be an 18K build I'm sure.
the rear brakes were kind of an afterthought when planning on running a BMW bolt pattern with a mustang rearend and a Camaro sized hub. after throwing some ideas around as to if I wanted to use the BMW discs and make custom brackets for the calipers or do I want to run mustang brakes and brackets and try to find a custom rotor... well I went for plan C and decided the mustang brake setup would be best and also use the mustang rotor and find someone to drill a new bolt pattern. I was going to bring it to a machine shop to do but I figured I had a drill press why not give it a wirl myself. drilling through the rotor was easy but making the holes line up perfectly was the tricky part. but just doing multiple measurements and ensuring the bit was lined perfectly with the center punch worked out just fine. I only have a thousandth or two of runout which is more then acceptable in my opinion.
